T-6 vs A-29

Well it is official. The Ministry of Defense officially said today that the FAA would not be purchasing supersonic multi-roll aircraft and will in fact use the monies to upgrade the A-4AR and purchase turboprop COIN aircraft, transport aircraft and helicopters.

Very sad news indeed......................

Well at the moment That seems to make the most sense to the leadership, you really don't need fighters if there is no major conflict. Most of Latin America's security issues have been lower scale. Argentine relations with most of it's neighbors are very good except Uruguay and Chile but I have not heard anything about mobilizing for a war.

True. However a weakened Argentina will just emboldened a strong Chile with over 48 F-16s

Argentina can always invest in some SAM system to deter some of those Chile F-16s.

Beginning of update for Chilean P-3s

The first Chilean Navy Lockheed Martin P-3 "Orion" maritime patrol aircraft left Concon's naval base and arrived in Canada for its mid-life (MLU) $ 37 million contract with IMP Aerospace of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Chilean Navy's Lockheed P-3 "Orion" has been in service since 1993 and will have to receive new wings and stabilizers. The engines will be upgraded as part of the mid-life modernization plan (MLU). Other improvements include the installation of the new fully integrated Integrated Tactical System (FITS) tactical mission system. Modernization of avionics includes the installation of a digital cockpit and the installation of a new multi-mode maritime surveillance radar system. The aircraft will feature Raytheon AGM-84 anti-ship "Harpoon" missiles.

Once completed, the Chilean "Orion" P-3s should remain in service for 20 years. The aircraft are operated from the Maritime Reconnaissance Squadron (VP) -1 in Viña del Mar, about 60 km west of the capital, Santiago.

Half built. A contract to manufacture 40 Pampa aircraft for the Air Force is the only project that has been in the pipeline for years. The rest of the activity is only maintenance and modernization of the Hercules.

It is still test phase with two prototypes built. The Argentine defense minister, Julio Martínez, begins the talks so that part of the tests are carried out in Argentina. Argentina is interested in 6 units.
