HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Ark/Hongmeng isn't even out yet, and Google is already freaking out!

In 10 years time, it is possible that we will see the 2 versions of the Android Open Source Project:

1. the Google version
and
2. the Huawei/China version

And it is also possible for the Huawei/China version to be larger and more influential in the world.

So yes, Google is right be to freaking out.

Google warns of US national security risks from Huawei ban

Tech group pushing Trump officials to exempt its Android operating system from measure

Google has warned the Trump administration it risks compromising US national security if it pushes ahead with sweeping export restrictions on Huawei, as the technology group seeks to continue doing business with the blacklisted Chinese company.

Senior executives at Google are pushing US officials to exempt it from a ban on exports to Huawei without a licence approved by Washington, according to three people briefed on the conversations.

The Trump administration announced the ban after the US-China trade talks collapsed, prompting protests from some of the biggest US technology companies who fear they could get hurt in the fallout. Google in particular is concerned it would not be allowed to update its Android operating system on Huawei’s smartphones, which it argues would prompt the Chinese company to develop its own version of the software. Google argues a Huawei-modified version of Android would be more susceptible to being hacked, according to people briefed on its lobbying efforts.

Huawei has said it would be able to develop its own operating system “very quickly”. One person with knowledge of the conversations said: “Google has been arguing that by stopping it from dealing with Huawei, the US risks creating two kinds of Android operating system: the genuine version and a hybrid one. The hybrid one is likely to have more bugs in it than the Google one, and so could put Huawei phones more at risk of being hacked, not least by China.”

Washington has been concerned for years that telecoms equipment sold by Huawei could be used by Beijing for hacking. But since Donald Trump entered office, these concerns have come to the fore. Last month, the Trump administration announced a fresh set of measures targeting the Chinese company. They include giving the commerce department the power to ban Huawei from selling 5G equipment in the US, as well as a blanket ban on American companies selling their products to the Chinese group.

After the ban was imposed, Google suspended business with Huawei, cutting it off from potential updates to Android. Since then, however, the administration has granted a 90-day reprieve for companies to adjust.

In the past few weeks, senior Google executives have approached the commerce department asking either for another extension or to be exempted from the ban altogether, according to those briefed on the conversations.

In doing so, it has joined groups representing major US microchip makers such as Qualcomm, who are also worried about the impact the ban will have on their business.

A commerce department official said its Bureau of Industry and Security routinely responded to “inquiries from companies regarding the scope of regulatory requirements”, in order to “ensure private industry compliance” with export controls. “This is not new to this administration, nor do these discussions influence law enforcement actions,” the person said. “The highest priority of the department and BIS remains the protection of our nation’s security.”

Google said: “Like other US companies, we’re engaging with the Department of Commerce to ensure we’re in full compliance with its requirements and temporary licence. Our focus is protecting the security of Google users on the millions of existing Huawei handsets in the US and around the world.”

=======================================

This is the most absurdly funny and embarrassing development for the Taiwanese who started the thread of "Can the US derail 2025?"

I am sure those Taiwanese guys, who spent unlimited days and nights to write this trash and posted it at “Quora”, must have fainted beside the toilet.

So yes, Google is right be to freaking out.

1) Google has tried its Dragonfly project to re-enter Chinese market, but failed.
2) Google then starts to prepare for a world where Two Internets co-exist in parallel. One Internet is Western, another is Chinese.
3) Google at that time believes Western Internet will win over Chinese consumers eventually because Western Internet means freedom and democracy.
4) But Google fails to understand that ordinary Chinese folks don't want Western-style freedom and democracy in China.
5) What fatal to Google and to the US is that the so-called Western tech superiority is just a wishful myth. Huawei's Spare Tires project is a solid example.
6) HW OS will be more popular in the world than Google Android OS not only because Hongmeng can work across the boundary of Windows, iOS and Android, thus has more applications in the future, but more importantly, because Trump's America First is pushing more and more countries into the arms of Xi jingpin's Belt and Roud Initiative. In many parts of the world beyond the Five-eye Spy bloc, able to communicate with Chinese means better job opportunities and more business, and using HW OS is a good way to learn Chinese, leave alone that your boss may be a Chinese who may force you to use HW OS in the office.

Google is just claiming that Huawei's "Hongmeng" would be easier to hack. That means they are bashing Hongmeng because they think it is not as good as Android.

Alternatively, Google realizes that if they don’t work with Huawei, the HongMeng ecosystem will permanently take a huge bite out of their data collection operations. Even if it only became a success within China, that alone would do to Android’s market share in China what THAAD did to Samsung’s market share in China.

Google is just claiming that Huawei's "Hongmeng" would be easier to hack. That means they are bashing Hongmeng because they think it is not as good as Android.

Why should Google worry about if Hongmeng is more prone to hacks than its Android? How comes Hongmeng's hack vulnerability is a risk to US national security? How and why a Google exemption from the Huawei Ban can make the US safer because of Hongmeng's hack vulnerability?

It doesn't make any sense from any angle for Google to link Hongmeng's hack vulnerability with US national security risk, and then to use it to ask Trump to grand it an exemption from the Huawei Ban. Something must have been wrong about the FT report regarding Google's lobby to exempt it from the Huawei Ban, especially about its arguments and reasoning.

After Huawei showed the world that it is about to release its own Hongmeng OS, Google must have come to realize that, from an early enthusiasm to embrace the Huawei Ban, the ban in fact is threatening the life of its Android OS, as China is the largest Android smartphone maker and user in the world. Three of the four largest Android phone makers (Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi) are Chinese. The arrival of Hongmeng will prompt not only Chinese phone makers to abandon Android, but also encourage Samsung to develop its own OS. So, saving Android from death must have become an emergency for Google. (Android is Google's most valuable cash cow. It paid $130 million to buy it in 2005, and said it was "best deal ever". Android has made billions dollars for Google over the past thirteen years.)

How to save Android from a pending death? Google can't argue Hongmeng's hack vulnerability constitutes US national security risk. Whether Hongmeng is safe has nothing to do with US national security. In fact an unsafe Hongmeng is a god-given gift to the US, because it would allow the US to spy world wide. So, what would Google argue about its exemption from the Huawei Ban? I believe Google has gone to Trump to emphasize that the Huawei Ban is a national security to the US, rather than a death to Android, thus trying to win the exemption. How would Google do it?

Well, Google would say:"Hi, you see, if you didn't allow me to business with Huawei, Huawei would release its own Hongmeng very soon. All countries around Belt and Road would likely use Hongmeng. Your NSA can spy on my Android 24/7/365 all over the world, could you touch Huawei's Hongmeng for a split of second anywhere around the Belt and Road? It is the greatest national security risk we've ever faced since the end of the Cold War, Sir! "

Trump thought for a while. Then he scribbled a number and passed it to Google's lobby representative. "Yes. You're right. It may be wrong to ban you from doing business with Huawei. We'll see it. By the way , this is Trump Fund's bank account number."

China regularly wins programming competitions whenever they happen. The US didn't give a visa to a Chinese woman who broke one of the top encryptions in the world who was invited to a US hacker convention. China is at least as capable with the tops of the world. That's an old stereotype to believe the Chinese don't know how to program. Google knows its days are numbered if China comes out with a top operating system whether it's sooner or later because when it happens, most of the world won't be using Android because everyone knows the US is hypocritically doing what they charge China. They accuse China first because when everyone finds out the US has been doing it already, it lessens the crime because they can hide behind they need to do it as a counter when they were actually the first. Just look at how when the NSA admitted that a lot of their hackers tools were stolen to which they accuse China of using. Yes forget that the US created them in the first place and for what reason would they create them? For the good of the world...?

China is at least as capable with the tops of the world. That's an old stereotype to believe the Chinese don't know how to program.

That stereotype must be pretty old indeed. The first 8 years of my career I spent at Microsoft and Google, and I can tell you that not only were Chinese programmers the largest group in terms of numbers, the majority of thevbest programmers I have had the privilege of working with were Chinese. Sure, there were good American programmers as well as many decent Indian programmers, but all of the programmers that set the bar for us were either Chinese, Israeli, or Eastern European. Of course, my personal experience may not be representative across the entire industry, but to me it was very convincing. However, I think there is a belief that until recently, the software industry was not as developed or mature in China as in the US. This is a belief that I even used to hold, until quite recently. But based on what I have seen and experienced in my career and life, I think that software is a field that China can rapidly catch up in and even surpass the US. At least to me, software is just an easy problem to solve, and that is coming from someone that has designed and architected solutions for a wide variety of different software systems and applications.
