It is so funny!

The United States and its allies are trying to gang up on China (reportedly, we do not know if it is really true).

Now we have China asking nicely the same US allies to let China into their CPTPP.

Regardless of the answer ... there will be consequences ...

 :D

You know, I am quoting my own post, because the good man siegecrossbow gave me a laughing smiley, which trigger a thought I did not think of.

Well, this is awkward.

This is just another way of forcing people to pick a side.

If CPTPP allows China in, then obviously they picked China's side.

This is the same CPTTP that was the TPP the Americans rejected.

This is really awkward.

Does the CCP watch that American TV show 'Seinfeld?'

:D

Tell you what. This new development is a 100x times more consequential for the region + China than the UK US AU theatrics.

Genuinely shocked if China manages to join CPTPP. Would be China's biggest strategic masterstroke in the last 20 years

Just read on FT that for China to join CPTPP requires unanimous consent by all of its members. Japan and Australia included.

Unless China has a trump card, I dont see how Australia wouldnt play the spoiler and decline China's application to join the CPTPP

CPTTP was a way for the Anglo corporatocracy to have power and authority over non Anglo nations hence the provisions to sue nation states over “lost profits”.
It would be hilarious to see Huawei sue Australia and Japan over lost profits lololololol

And the West always portrays Chinese as unstable thinkers... Just because China is hitting Australia with trade barriers, the next action is invasion of Australia by China? To which Australia is using as a reason to get nuclear powered submarines and now Australia thinks it's in a position of strength thinking China will be begging to Australia for talks to which Australia thinks they will be able to dictate trade terms to China...?

That's how weird the West thinks. Overall they think if China doesn't follow with what they want in general, it means China is about invade the world with military aggression. All this under the guise that the West is pure good as recognized by the universe so therefore everyone has to obey them blindly and without question or else you must be up to something evil. That's what the West's problem is that's been around for centuries maybe even eons is they want to believe they're the embodiment of good. They don't believe action speaks louder than words. They're made of pure good. That's why you have the proud boys and the alt-right, who are just the new names of something old like the Klan and skinheads, wanting to put women and other races in their place thinking they're the good guys of the universe. That's why they think people have to blindly obey them because if you don't do what "the good" wants, it's because you're working for evil. Even though the West has the history of forcing their racist beliefs onto the world, they believe Asians are worse than they are. Liberals will defend white supremacists in their racist beliefs because thinking it is not a crime. But for Asians just accusing Asians of racism with no crimes for them to point to is enough to make Asians worse in their eyes even though they've actually forced their racist beliefs onto others.

It is a part of Western culture to accuse others of crimes that they charge will happen in the future. It's because they want to put everyone else on the defensive so that it is those that they accuse that have to prove themselves innocent. You're guilty until you prove yourself innocent. Something they claim the opposite in promoting how good they are as a society to throw the world off because they don't actually believe in it in practice. Christians believe everyone is born of sin. And how you become not a sinner? You have to do whoever proclaims themselves the representative of God, not God himself, whatever he says before you're absolved of sin. And how do you prove you're not something they accuse you will do in the future? Blind obedience in anything they demand. That's how you prove yourself as innocent to them. You have to give up your free will and be their slave for the rest of your life because that's the only way you prove you're not a threat. It's not slavery if you "volunteer" to be their slave so no crime has been committed in their eyes.

The more I think about this CPTPP and the China application to join, the more awkward it seems.

Suppose that the CPTPP rejects the Chinese application. What will China do?

Clearly, China will scream this is economic suppression! They will fight back!

Uh oh!

We could be left with a CPTPP that has neither the United States nor China, the two largest economies in the world.

Then the CPTPP would be the target of American tariffs (America First) and also Chinese actions against it.

Looks like the can of worms will be opened.

Singapore was right all along. No one wants to pick a side.

But, sometimes that question picks you!

:p

What! Selling out our dearest and nearest neighbour for a measly $100 billion pieces of silver! And just think the French helped out the Scots in their fight against the English all those years ago. Lol

Honestly, yes, I think if you follow the money things also make a lot of sense.

Today the UK also sold 2 Arrowhead 140’s to Indonesia, we want to sell our top gear abroad to create jobs at home…

Australia may be motivated to support China to join the CPTPP because if it does them China will have to trade with Australia normally again due to CPTPP rules.

Even funnier, the US would lobby very hard against this, poor Australia, they are in a pickle.

It's a genius move by China, really. You've got Morrison taking a piss at China by "inviting" Xi for talks after announcing AUKUS; and on the other side of the equator there's Japan's sabre-rattling on Taiwan and holding large drills for "Chinese invasion".

Now China responds by applying to join CPTPP, effectively putting both countries on the spot for the whole world to see - the ball's on their court if they wanna accept China's membership or veto it, and everybody will know where they stand.
