(ASK) How well trained are the pla special forces?

Covering more than 1,000 square kilometers, Zhurihe has been the site of many major PLA exercises and international war games involving the PLA and foreign militaries.

That's twice the size of Ft. Hood, Texas US Army base!

A 340 square mile installation (214,968 acres), Fort Hood is the only post in the United States capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions

Ok I answer my own question this report below is outdated beyond repair. In recent year China did improve the strategic transport with new addition of Y 20 and new Y-9. this division is handy in any conflict with India beside the specialized mountain brigade. From Wiki

The PLA Air Force's Airborne Corps is China's primary strategic airborne unit and it is part of the newly formed rapid reaction units (RRU) of the Chinese military which is primarily designated for airborne and special operation missions. Its role is similar to that of the

Only one of the Corps' three divisions can deploy to any part of China within 48 hours due to limited airlift capabilities. In the late 1990s the airlift capability of the PLAAF consisted of 10 IL-76 heavy lift, Yu-8, and Yu-7 transports, as well as

helicopters. As such, the PLAAF could only lift one division of 11,000 men complemented with light tanks and self-propelled artillery. In 1988, there were reports claiming that a 10,000 man airborne division was transported to Tibet in less than 48 hours.

According to You Ji's "The Armed forces of China", the Airborne Corps has been elevated to the status of a strategic force. It is a departure from the PLA traditional airborne force concept. Doctrinal modernization change allows the Airborne Corps to act as a principal force employed for independent campaign missions in future wars. It is now accepted that the airborne troops should be used for pre-emptive attack on the enemy's key military targets in the rear area in order to paralyze or disrupt its preparation for an offensive. This kind of large-scale mission cannot be conducted without having a total control in the air. Also, a single-lift capability of 50,000 men is required for this type of missions. Currently, the PLAAF can only lift one division of 11,000 men with light tanks and self-propelled artillery.

In 2006 Dennis Blasko wrote that the Airborne’s headquarters is in

More and more focus will be placed on helicopter assaults as opposed to traditional parachute drops. In times of war, the Airborne Corps can also utilize transport aircraft such as

The Airborne Corps' weapons inventory includes 50-100

In 1997, a new lightweight high-mobility vehicle entered service. Reportedly, up to ten of these vehicles can be carried by a Y-7H military transport. Paratroopers are outfitted with portable GPS systems,

The Airborne Divisions have various special units, including weapons controllers, reconnaissance, infantry, artillery, communications, engineering, chemical defense, and transportation soldiers. Today, the Airborne Divisions have three regiments plus one light artillery regiment, which are further divided into battalions and companies.

Iran's minister of cooperatives, labor and social welfare says Iranian and Chinese commandos are heading towards the area where an Iranian oil tanker caught fire and is still ablaze following a collision in the East China Sea.

Ali Rabiei, head of an ad hoc committee tasked with following up on the condition of the tanker and its crew, said on Saturday that the Iranian and Chinese commandos would reach the area on Sunday morning local time.

He added that many ambiguities surrounding the incident would be resolved after the arrival of the Iranian and Chinese teams.

Pointing to operations to extinguish the blaze, he said two Japanese fireboats had arrived in the region while Tokyo has announced that it would dispatch two more boats.

Iran has also hired three fireboats to put out the fire, Rabiei said, adding that they had been deployed in the area. Three other ships are also hired by Iran for logistic support, he said.

Iran, China FMs discuss flaming tanker

Also on Saturday, the foreign ministers of Iran and China discussed the latest developments surrounding the stricken Iranian oil tanker.

Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi held a phone conversation after Chinese rescuers recovered two bodies and the "black box" from the tanker.

The top Chinese diplomat said his country's salvage team would make its utmost effort to extinguish the blaze.

The bodies were discovered on the deck of the Panamanian-registered Sanchi oil tanker Saturday morning by the four-member rescue team wearing respirators.

The collision occurred between the Sanchi tanker and the huge Hong Kong bulk freighter, CF Crystal, 160 nautical miles east of Shanghai in the East China Sea on January 6.

The tanker, which was carrying 136,000 tonnes of condensate for South Korea, has been in flames since the collision.

Reports said 30 Iranian and two Bangladeshi sailors went missing after the collision. A total of three bodies have so far been recovered while the remaining sailors are still missing.

Xinjiang PAP "hell week" endurance training with full equipment in -20 Celsius/-4 Fahrenheit environment. Useful for long tracking and pursuit of terrorists in the border region.

After pursuing a group of terrorists for 40 days the PAP surrounded and eliminated 13 terrorists in a firefight but 10 terrorists managed to escape. 12 days later the remaining terrorists were tracked down by their footprints and eliminated in another firefight.

GUILIN, July 17 (ChinaMil) -- The Army of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) concluded the first assessment and contest of its special operations forces (SOF) —“Ingenious Special Operations Soldier -2018” on Monday in Guilin, Guangxi Province.

During the 9-day assessment and contest, 870 SOF officers and soldiers from the PLA Army were divided into 4 categories of commanding HQ, detachment commanders, SOF teams, and SOF individuals and took part in the fierce competitions of 64 subjects, including interpretation of remote sensing image, multiple weapons shooting, and consecutive special operations.

The officer in charge from the PLA Army said, “The assessment and contest covered all basic and compulsory training subjects of the special operations of the PLA Army.” In order to test the effects of military training and warfare preparedness in a comprehensive and real manner, the participants are selected through recommendations and computer-generated random draw lots.

The contest focused on assessing and testing the commanding HQ's ability to effectively plan and use special operations forces, detachment commanders’ ability to command special operations, SOF teams’ ability to conduct operations, and SOF individuals’ stamina, skills, and intelligence.

The reporter saw during the contest, at a temperature up to 40℃, the SOF soldiers took part in 16 consecutive subjects including lurking at night, fast-roping from helicopter, driving in complex road conditions, and conducting sniper attacks and so on.

Organized by the PLA Army, the assessment and contest is the first of its kind for the PLA Army's special operations forces since the Army was restructured in 2015. The assessment and contest is aimed to select and train the top SOF soldiers and discover the problems with the SOF during its build-up and development.

The devil is in the details. Note that in the last paragraph, it says “this is the first assessment of the PLA Spec Ops since the Army was restructured in 2015”. So this is the first assessment since 2015. It doesn’t mean it is the first ever. I guess all the reorganization messed them up a little. That’s why it took them close to 3 year to start the assessment thing again... my guess...

First assessment of this scale since 2015. Each unit is actually continuously assessed every year (for recruitment and retirement purposes). They might not assess every category, but they do try to fill gaps they find every year.
