GLM-5.2 is just such a huge leap for Chinese models. it was like the leap that Claude made with Opus 4.6 (or even 4.5) that suddenly catapulted them ahead of everyone and everyone switched to Claude code. There was a fear or theory online that Anthropic had achieved RSI which will just catapult them so far ahead of Chinese models. But if we think of 5.2 as Chinese Opus 4.6, then Zai is essentially 4 months behind with similar cadence level.

Alibaba has a good chance as well.

Qwen has been getting monthly releases, especially Qwen Max
Qwen devs have stated they are focusing to achieve SOTA instead of their previous open source focus
Qwen Max 3.7 was a big upgrade from 3.6 max in just one month and surprisingly strong in reasoning tasks but still a bit behind in agent/coding

They should be releasing a model next week given their previous history. There's also a rumor of Qwen Max 4.0 releasing in the summer.

GLM still too expensive to be widely used, they can at best move up to Nong, DS and Kimi still Shi on real world usage.
