GLM-5.2 report also mentioned waiting for the Ascend 950 supernode to be officially launched in the second half of the year.

Whether this is politically correct or not, the reality is that they really need computing resources.
this is really a great news. I got a contact that will intern at Zai soon, so should get a better sense of how much they actually use Ascend for non-inference tasks. But based on this message, it seems like Atlas-950 could be used significantly for training.

I am cautiously optimistic that CANN is prepared for such a large-scale training effort.

Z.ai's ability to train GLM-5.2 demonstrates that, regardless of the methods used, they have sufficient training computational resources. Ascend's ability to replace inference computing resources and (very importantly) expand the Token Plan service to obtain more data is already sufficient.

On that second part, have others tried their token plans since the release? How is it?

Huawei CFO’s admissions can be used at criminal trial, US judge rules

CFO Meng Wanzhou said in 2021 that Huawei illegally conducted business in Iran.

A top Huawei executive’s admission that the Chinese telecom company illegally conducted business in Iran can be used in the upcoming US trial against Huawei, a US judge has ruled. The ruling was filed in Brooklyn federal court on Tuesday. The company’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, made the admission as part of a 2021 deal to dismiss the criminal charges she faced in the case. She had been accused of bank fraud in the US in connection with violating sanctions on Iran. In a four-page statement of facts, Meng acknowledged lying to a financial institution about Huawei’s compliance with sanctions and export control law.

“Meng was — and is still — Huawei Tech’s CFO,” US District Judge Ann Donnelly wrote. “Huawei Tech should not be able to object that admitting the statement of its senior executive about her conduct in connection with her job — which Huawei Tech adopted — violates Huawei Tech’s rights.” Donnelly rejected Huawei’s argument that prosecutors could not use Meng’s admission against it because the company was entitled to remain silent despite her statement. The judge also said it was unnecessary for Huawei to question her at trial. A Huawei spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Fractured relations with China

Meng, whose father, Ren Zhengfei, founded Huawei, made worldwide headlines in 2018 when she was arrested on a US warrant after landing in Vancouver, straining both US-China and China-Canada relations. The warrant was filed after a sealed indictment accused her and the company of bank fraud for misleading HSBC and other banks about Huawei’s business in Iran.

Meng spent nearly three years under house arrest in a six-bedroom, multimillion-dollar Canadian home as she fought extradition to the US. In an unusual resolution during the pandemic, she was allowed to appear in court remotely from Vancouver in September 2021 to enter into a deferred prosecution agreement before

, and two American siblings who had been prevented from leaving the country were allowed to fly home.

The case against Huawei has plodded on. In addition to the original charges for misleading banks, a superseding indictment accused the company of stealing trade secrets and other crimes. Since 2019, the US has restricted Huawei’s access to US technology, accusing the company of activities contrary to US national security, which Huawei denies. The company has not only recovered from the US restrictions but has also expanded into new business segments, such as smart car components, and is a leader in China’s AI development. The trial is set for jury selection on September 8.

The PRC should not wait for the verdict. Instead, it should prepare strong countermeasures months in advance and implement them immediately on the day the ruling is announced. Naturally, the article reflects a pro-U.S. Empire bias, given that it comes from Reuters. One example is its characterization of trade between the PRC and Iran as 'illegal' based on U.S. extraterritorial sanctions, even though those rules are imposed unilaterally by Washington. 'Arrested' according to Reuters. More like kidnapped and used for leverage, with the law acting as camouflage.
