American Economics Thread

Yesterday I realised that the Trump slogan of America First is actually wrong. If the Trump admin really is about America First, they would have impose ld a thorough lockdown much earlier on, the US Senators wont be so worried for the pontential impact on SP500/Nasdaq index over the lives of Americans. The true slogan is in fact, America(Hegemony) First. They mistook maintaining hegemony as the core interest of America. Either that or what the politicians really care for is their hegemonial tool.
Not hegemony , just money.
I was looking at the tale of insulin prices in USA and how things came to be the way it is. I realized ( unsurprisingly, again) that it is Corporations and Greed that was to blame. The most dangerous factor regarding US is that corruption has been legalized through "lobbying".

To put it in simpler terms, the people who got mesmerized by the economic forces that sees Companies/ Corporations as legal entities has extended the "rights" to these corporations to buy favors from politicians too. All that is required to stop it is some checks and balances.
But lobbying is working against that too.

And yet they preach fervently.

A Babylon for the new era.

China domestic shale gas production has increased drastically for the last few years especially in Sichuan and Chongqing. Although it would take another decade for China shale gas production to have a major impact.
Yes, China has plenty of shale gas reserves but I beleive they should remain untouched as much as possible. To extract shale gas, hydraulic fracturing is required which uses a lot of chemicals and water underground, causing a lot of enviromental pollutions. Water is more precious that gas. Time and money spend on shale gas extractingt are better spend on renewable/green energy, saving the enviroments and keeping the shale gas for future reservies or energency.

Yes. The continued exploitation of Shale in the US ( with high Sulphur content) is facilitated by the fact that the technology and infrastructure for decreasing the Sulphur content has been built up and exists.

China cannot expect to invest in Shale without investing in processing facilities that deals with impurities. The economics is against China. Gulf Oil will remain the answer in the short to medium term.

I agree. Shale extraction can also lead to earthquakes, and most of China's concentrated shale reserves are in Sichuan. It's a very bad idea to extract shale there.

The reason why US household wealth increased is because they each got a $1200 hand out stimulus check.

And you are wrong that its older people dying. Younger people are also dying. Li Wenliang was only 31 years old when he died. There was another Wuhan doctor that died only at 29 years old.

Those that survived are left maimed, particularly with cardiovascular related issues.

Yeah, I shouldnt underestimate the America capacity for stupidity. The overall wealth may have done up, but that is due to the stock market, stimulus packages and the rich getting richer due to being bailed out by the Federal reserve/government. None of those are indicative of how many people in the USA are becoming poorer and poorer with no future prospects nor is it indicative of the future job market now that millions are getting sacked every week. Regardless, if the USA doesn't solve there problems in an instant, this problem with wealth is going to explode, destroying the household wealth years to come, thus the USA is going to become a third - fourth world country over night

As far as the pandemic, it's mostly older people dying so it won't really have an impact on the US demographic profile in the long run. These older people are mostly no longer workers and were just a drag on the economy. Sure it's wrong, but it's not going to weaken the US. Also, the leadership of the US can just blame China no matter how bad it is, so it won't damage them either. The worse it is, the more China is hated, that's all it means.

I suppose this is an average between the earnings of bezos and musk etc and the millions of bankrupt and unemployed. Ok. Statistics in civil matter may lie my friend. 6 trillions printed out of thin air canalled directly or indirectly to some big pockets, gold , and stocks is not the real picture. I think you can understand this

Must admit that looking at those charts makes me nervous. It should make everyone on these forums nervous.
Yeah, that is quite scary, but I am also interested as to how long the majority are going to simply take it until they finally decide to eat the rich, so to speak since they have so much resources, could they spare a little to help others in there time of need. Hence if something does finally happen to the rich, their shouldn’t be any sympathy. I mean for all that wealth, none of those things can be talent to the after life. I am just astounded that even now, greed seems to trump everything in America

my forecast for the U.S. economy:

the second wave, the double dip, and a protracted recession for 2021.

the second wave has started to hit Europe, the U.S. is a few weeks behind. the economy will suffer the double dip in Q4 after the Q3 recovery. the wave of bankruptcy will start to hit the market by Q4. congress will pass one more stimulus package, but it will not be able to hold up the economy this time.
