Sir welcome back, please post more. :) and from the picture, the design may have taken inspiration from the Yasen class SSN.

All subs tend to look alike. Especially because they're submarines. They're shaped functionally by hydrodynamics, kind of like how all torpedoes look alike.

The sub I see in Oldschool's post looks like it has a sail very similar to the Type 039B but is slightly extended. I would assume that this model might already be possibly outdated and we might see the notched radar stealthy sails instead.

a new sub under construction?

Type 093B first batch construction has begun total 8 submarines in first batch. second batch will likely to approve soon. type 095 construction will also start soon along with type 093B. means simultaneously. PLAN finally unleash their true industrial might in Submarine construction. by 2035 PLAN will be operating much larger fleet of nuclear powered submarine. close to USA.

I don't know why PLAN would want to build that many 093B, but sure. This is not really a good thing.

Well, weapons being procured in massive quantities is always a warning sign. I'd still say that attack submarines being produced isn't as grim of an omen as nuclear missile-armed ballistic missile subs though.

It depends on the actual production rate that the SSNs come out.

If the Chinese Navy builds 3 SSNs per year, that is comparable to annual procurement by the US Navy.
It's simply the production rate required to maintain a fleet of 100 SSN equivalents, if each has a 35 year lifespan.

Type 093B is based on a (presumably) proven and reliable design and so should be easier to both construct and bring into service (sea trials, etc.) than a brand new 095 design incorporating many new (to China) technologies. Makes sense if PLAN wants to increase SSN numbers quickly. First of class trials will take a long time for 095.

Also the old hall at the Western side of the yard is still busy so we can add maybe another couple of SSNs to the total capacity.
