I think he's talking about this, sir.

Thanks.

OK, here's the link to the PDF of the entire report with many pictures of the mock-up:

I find it difficult to believe that the PLAN would set up a 2/3rd scale mock-up that truly represents their next generation...their latest and greatest...on the grounds of a naval academy that also had foreign students attending.

No way would they reveal it in that manner IMHO. More likely just a representation for the academy.

Here are the pictures:

Yeah it's just mock up model, but it does give a slight hint of what the outside would look like.

The sail roots being curved and blended seems to be a re-occuring scheme in the newest generation of chinese submarines. The new 039C Yuan-C at least is confirmed to have this feature, while the latest 093s were also seen with them.

But I have to say, the large, bloated hull of that mockup does remind me of the Oscar class somehow.

Or a (likely SSK) training facility as you can see some foreign Navy cadets visiting.

Yeah. SSK training is a logical conclusion. You wouldn't want foreign naval cadets around your next generation nuclear submarine mock-ups.

I think it's more of a training simulator than a monument. See those two doors on the side? a monument wouldn't have doors.

Maybe the doors lead to a small museum or a one of kind cafe ;):p But yeah, you are tight. Training simulator at a training institute is the plausible explanation.

I initially thought it looked just like a Seawolf or Virginia class SSN, especially the sail, but now... Looks more like an Asute class

The design probably can't be taken seriously being built along with a soccer field next to it. I doubt it's even full scale if that's a mock-up. Remember a few years ago that building in China that looked like a giant F-117? It could be just a general modern submarine decoration for a naval school. Besides there's foreign students on campus. If that's a serious design, would they put it out there for everyone to see especially if it was used for training?

It is just a half baked rendition of a submarine, because the base they are at is submarine related.

Just a hunk of metal, put there because some designer didn't have two brain cells to rub together about what would look good and what wouldn't.

So drawing any inferences from what real Chinese submarines might look like from this model, is backwards, because the chances of the designer of the overall location would have no reason to leave hints, let alone would they know jack all about the PLAN's submarine programme.
