Re: Type 071 LPD

Very nice picture gents!:) Proof positive of the growth of the PLAN.

I wonder how long it will take the PLAN to make this ship operational? espically considering they have little experience in operating a ship this size. I'm sure they have set some goals as to when the ship will be operational.

My kudos to the PLAN!:china:

Hope they won't set in on a sandbank in their first exescise :)
Well there'll be sea trials first, let's see if everything works as exspected.

Very cool. Kudos to the PLAN :china: .How long would a typical sea trial takes? Is there any news on the hover craft for this baby yet?

Who knows? Your guess is as good as anyone. It could more than a year before any type sea trial start up. And no one is really sure about what sort of landing craft the ship will have. Check the below link for more info!

I'm seriously impressed with this ship, she currently looks world class! Design philosphy wise she's a bit behind the curve (through-deck LPHs like the latest French/Italian) but she's up there and looks more stealthy than most others!

that's one of the mysteries surrounding this ship. I guess we will find out in the coming days what kind of landing craft it will use. It's hard to think that they would build a LPD without also building landing craft. I'd think it would be something that would be large enough to hold a Type 96 (45 tonne?) or the next possible level is for Type 99 (55 tonne?).

I really like it - to compare with Modell and probably close to USS San Antonio -

Could this thing hold a Zubr? I don't know...those things are huge. Besides, for the most likely use of amphibious craft by the PLAN (we all know what that is) I doubt that an LPD would be necessary to move the Zubrs to where they need to go.

is to big for this ship;

in my opinion, they maxim. could carrie the Landing hovercrafts of the types "Kalmar" and "Murena" (NATO: "Lebed", "Tsaplya") 24, 8 m x 10,8 m, 85 t, 70 knts, 2x PT-76 IFV or 120 Marines
LEBED Class: Air-cushion vehicle (ACV) (hovercraft); 20 built and in service 1976-1997

(thx to hmmwv 4pix)

Could be nice to replace the 1 x 30mm Cannon on bow with the AK-630 (Russian-made) shipboard close-in weapon system (CIWS) - there should be place enough to install a onboard Type 347G (Rice Lamp) I-band fire-control radar - and let them work by data-link with other ACVs or mother-ship 071 .....
