According to the big Weibo guy, due to the changing international situation, particularly that of the sitation in the Asia-Pacific being too rapid, therefore many details in the "14th Five-Year Plan" previously being formulated by the PLAN would experience some changes. Among these, the most important change would be the cancellation of the construction of the 2nd batch of 055 after the first batch of 055 has been commissioned, in order to build an "even stronger warship (type)" with a combined combat power that is even stronger than 055.

I'm guessing that China would either build something akin to the Lider-class, or a smaller version of the Kirov-class. Although I see the former being more likely.

So it would appear they consider the 055 to be one generation ahead of the flight 2 Burkes and the "improved" 055 to be a full generation ahead of the flight 3 Burkes.

Replacement ship an improved 055... a 055A if you will? with IEPS, updated new bells and whistles, and a railgun? Or a totally different class of ship?

Is this a 052C to 052D sort of thing or a 051C to 052C I wonder.

Doesn't completely make sense though, if they things are kind of pressing, they would instead accelerate finishing the 055s, on the other hand, going for a new class of ships, must mean they somehow have confidence that they would fare well/win if a conflict were to break out in the near term.

We are currently seeing rapid construction of 054 and 052, perhaps this is to compensate for the 055 batch 2 cancellation?
