Rumor is the 2nd batch of 055 construction has been halted.
The reason: something better is coming: Objective Ship.(目标舰)It is said that it will be CGX of China.
We haven't seen the modules yet i guess, so the new 055 would be at the early stage of construction. Let's wait for more rumors if its true, maybe the 055A came faster, so they stopped the basic 055?

Who said this? Pop3?

Also CGX? Would it be the counterpart to the DDG(X) of the US Navy?

Speaking of pop3 - Sometime ago, pop3 did mention about a next-generation destroyer in the works:
View attachment 88050
Pop3 confirmed that there has already been a designated code name for next-generation destroyer.
Could it be this one? Or is it an entire separate project?

My (day)dream of 055X cruisers and 052X destroyers has come even closer to reality... ;)

(Sidenote: According to the Naval Vessels Naming Regulation of China from Wiki, PLAN cruisers would be named after Chinese provinces, similar to their LHDs and CVs. But again, it is from Wiki, so I would take it with a pinch of salt here.)

I mean we aren't talking about changing from steam to EM catapults. We're talking about changing to a completely different class/generation of ship.
I doubt they would throw the new and amazing design of hull 055 and throw it away for a new one, 055A was also talked that it is in the works. Or the others way around is, 055A will be built as a destroyer in few years and 052 series stops after the current orders are fullfilled, and this new cruiser class vessel will be also built.

But let's wait for some more rumors, who said this, it was POP3 or some fanboy?
