Tbh identifying whether an 052D uses H/PJ-11 or H/PJ-12 is one of the easier things to differentiate. Their profiles from the side and the front are quite different.

Pretty sure the "large circles" are ammunition drums, where H/PJ-11 has two (one on each side), where as H/PJ-12 only has one drum on the right side.

The first 052D with H/PJ-11 was JN's 052D #9 if I recall, and all of JN's 052Ds since then have used H/PJ-11.

DL's first two 052Ds use H/PJ-12, and the third uses H/PJ-11.

9th Type 052D should be Guiyang or DDG 119. This is from Dalian or Dalian's no. 1 052D. This should be the ship still with the Type 730 and the rods under the arrays, presumably the older and original version of the Type 346A. This is the old fit.

The first Type 052D with the Type 1130, if I check back on the pics, should be the 10th destroyer overall, which you said correctly, JN's no. 9.

Dalian no. 2 052D destroyer should be the ship still having 730, but the arrays without the rods, presumably a newer revision of the Type 346A. This should be DDG 120 Chengdu. This matches the fit on JN's no. 8, DDG 155 Nanjing.

Dalian no. 3 052D destroyer should be the ship with the 1130, and arrays without the rods or revised Type 346A. This should be DDG 121 Qiqihar. This is the first Dalian ship to match the same fit as JN's 10th, or Taiyuan DDG 131.

? Check which post of yours I was replying to.

My reply did not refer to any particular ship...

I said that the 9th 052D from JN was the first to have H/PJ-11, I do not reference the 9th 052D overall, if that's what you read it as.

It's pretty difficult to count ships without differentiating which shipyard they were built from.

In any case I think it's a bit messy to try to ID all of the different subvariants of 052D and the names they have. The situation for some of the names and even pennant numbers are still a bit fluid for my liking.
Easier to identify ships by their shipyard number if we have to.

This one is posted by by78 on the Type 055 thread. The 052D here is the one with the improved and clean Type 346A radar without the rods, but still has the Type 730 CIWS. There are only two ships with this combination, the other being from JN, which is now commissioned as 155 Nanjing, and is the first 052D to enter service with this radar. This ship appears to be back from trials. The third 052D still being fitted on Dalian, has the Type 1130 CIWS combined with the newer Type 346A.

Not sure why the PLAN installed Type 730 for the first 9 052D, considering Type 054A+ has already Type 1130 installed (since 2009), would it be the cost of Type 1130 ?

Would it be worth it to upgrade the first 9 052D to Type 1130 ?

Orders were already placed and 730s built. The PLAN can't just leave them to rust, those things are 20 million USD apiece..

But there is an HQ-10 short-range air defense missile launcher installed above the hangar, using a 24-unit configuration.
That type 054a dosn't have it, and early type 054a still use 7-30.

They might throw in a 052D with the 055 to use up the full width of the dock.

I'm still wondering why they might not just build another 055 alongside the existing 055 like the way they built the first two.

I suppose we will know how they intend to do it in a few months
