052C 151 commission already?

150 Changchun was launched on 28 november 2010 and commissioned on 31 january 2013, that's a 26 months time period. 151 Zhengzhou is launched on 20 july 2011 so if we take the 24 to 26 months time frame it will be commissioned between july and september of this year. Most likely is that 151 is still on sea trial but is already mingling with the other ships of her home fleet.

The 150 was designed as a "Flagship", while 151 was built just like a regular destroyer.

So what additional features would the "flagship" model have? Or does it simply mean more comfort features added for the high ranking officer?

Yes, as A. Man says, the HQ-61 launcher. What about it?

I find it regrettable that it was not replaced by a HQ-10 launcher when 540 was modernised at Shenjia, Shanghai, in 2012 and got the new gunturret. But PLAN obviously does not intend to put too much money into this 20 years old class.
I was just as surprised...that was my point. Why go through the modifications they made, and yet retain that system?

Even if they do not want to put too much money in it...providing such a basic upgrade for its defense, if they are putting the money into it for the modernization anyway, just did not make much sense to me.

I was surprised to see it there.

Oh well...IMHO, those older technology frigates are going to figure less and less into any major PLAN activities and plans as time goes on and more Type 052Ds, Type 054As and Type 056s are built.

Their time as effective major surface combatants for the PLAN is coming to an end rapidly and being replaced by vastly more capable vessels and technologies.

151 shall commissioned shorter period compare to 150. Since 150 is a first attempt after a long break of stop building this destroyer. 151 shall have an easier building process.

yeah the shipyard seems to be launching them fast enough but the rate determining step is the commissioning but then thats no suprise, they are learning and want to take time to fully absorb the new technologys that this class of ship brings to PLAN

on another note, when Royal Navy placed order for the Type 45 DDG it was well known who the sub-contractors were, from engines to who supplied the cables, do we know who is supply the materials for the Type 052D? also the materials for the modules must be brought into the shipyard etc etc by switching our eye over to the supplys end i wonder if we can establish how many Type 052D are in the pipeline or for that matter how many other ships

Absolutely you can.

This is something that the intelligence agencies for each nation keep as close tabs on as possible to tell them what is actually happening versus what is reported.

In an open nation like the US, it is not as difficult to find out and then keep tabs on what is reported to the press versus what is happening. In a less "open" society, it is more difficult to do, but through on the ground assets (people) and through surveillance, a good idea can be developed of what is coming into the logistical pipeline at a port facility and therefore determine what is planned to a point of actually preparing for builds.

Please answer this question since you made a bold claim here. What does 150 have that 151 does not have?
