The timing of fon transit and the news narrative are intended to inflame and stir anger. Nothing new coming from belligerent good ole USA,

China since beginning did NOT participate in arbitration or does NOT recognize the PCA ruling,
There is nothing to honor or not honor. To honor or not honor suggest there is an obligation to obey or follow and
in this case there is NONE,
What the Chinese government likely said was "China has no obligation to recognize the South China Sea ruling and hence no need to talk about it."

Pardon the language but It seems idiotic for the Philippines to arbitrarily recognize the PCA ruling, It is unenforceable and has questionable legitimacy to say least. It gets them nothing more than a kangaroo court legitimacy yet by own arbitrary recognition, it holds the Philippines accountable to the limitations as set forth through the ruling, It means that Philippines has forfeited recognition of any claimed SCS features as island whereby it forfeits any claim for such to have territorial waters and EEZ. This is specially true for Thitu Feature (Not Island), the largest Philippine occupied feature which falls outside of Philippine EEZ. Moreover, it weakens the Philippines own sea baseline claim to the UN as her "regime of island" claim, that was the Spratly islands(feature), are no longer islands and can legitimately be denied as such.

Philippines appears to damage their own core interest for the sake of spiting China on behalf of whomever.
