PLAN Zubr Large Air Cushion Landing Craft

Wow quite a beast :)
Just curious, I did not notice any rear facing weapons, any reason why?
Like maybe another 30mm/CIWS in the back to defend against missiles from from the rear?
The big fans would block the line of sight for the front mounted 30mm's if a missile was skimming close to the water
Or would a support ship help screen the rear?
These vessels are going to go into shore from some distance out.

They may address a relatively small issue where the opposition has little or no sea or air power. Or they may be a part of a larger task force that will have had to contend with and defeat opposition air and sea power before these vessels are sent in.

In the fist case, they will not need such weaponry.

In the second case, if they do need such weaponry against either air power or sea power that is able to break through to the amphibious assault group, then the entire operation will have been put at severe risk.

Anyway, as you state, and can see, having AK-630s or other weaponry oriented to fire aft (short of VLS weapons that can rise above the large fans), those three large fans which provide the craft its thrust, are simply in the way.

Hi Jura, when you say all Chinese, does that mean this is the fifth Zubi built entirely by the Chinese without help from the Ukrainians because I had always thought the last two of the four ship contract was completed in China, thanks

According to Henry K (

) the third and fourth Zubr build in China were not completely finished (most likely waiting for some important parts, perhaps the gas turbines ?).
This would be the finally finished third Zubr.

Its been a long time since the last post on this thread. Does anyone knows if in the future there will be more zubrs built, or if china will develop its own large landing hovercraft, or if china has just given up on the concept?

Well, China now has more active Zubras than anyone else...four.

Greece has four, but I do not believe all of them are active.

Russia has two.

The first domestic Zubr was launched three months ago after a couple of years of dormancy. They were waiting for domestic gas turbines after Ukraine got rekt by Russia. Now that domestic turbine manufacturing has been solved, there should be no bottleneck to Zubr production if the PLAN deems it necessary to procure more of them.

Another one is under construction at HP, not yet launched IIRC.

I read a some weeks ago that Russia will resume production of Zubrs. That might well be in the same plant that built the first Chinese Zubrs in Feodosia in the Crimea.

The first domestic zubr was launched last year AFAIK.

Since china now owns 7 of them, plus another under construction, i really doubt that they will build further. The issue is if they will develop a new large hovercraft in the future, since this is 1980´s technology.

Greece sold its zubr fleet to china.
