PLAN Zubr Large Air Cushion Landing Craft

This thread is specifically for the PLAN Zubr Class landing craft.

The PLAN has purchased two from the Ukraine which were built there and is in the midst of building at least two of its own in China, the first of which was recently launched and commissioned (shown above).



Please continue discussions about these vessels here on this thread.

They also bought 2 from Greek recently, which bring active fleet to 4, 2 being build and probably several domestic-built to come since they have acquired License from Russian. With range only 500km, I strongly believe they are made to be deployed from the future Type 81's well deck.

Assuming you are right, then the Type 81s would be massive!! It would rival but most likely surpass the Wasp LHDs.

I think you mean the Type 81A which is MCM, Type 081 is said to be a LHD and something similar to a Mistral class.

MCM Type 081 Wochi exist also 081A, for LHD designation supposed and actually a new batch of 071 is build...

Again ... I think my post yesterday got lost.

I think this was only an April 1. Fool's day joke last year that mitigated thru the usual "unreliable sources" like below and so became a fact.

I have seen no substantiation of this rumor.

As Deino said, it appeared to have been an April fools joke that has now become urban legend.

I'm sorry, heo, but there is NO WAY that these vessels will deploy in the well deck off of any LPD, LHD, LHA etc. They are simply to broad and too high...not to mention too heavy to do so.

Just not going to happen...I'm sorry, but implying that they will is pure fan boy type stuff in my opinion.

Type 081 is the first 4 units of the class and Type 081A are the ones since. There is nothing that substantiate the LHD is Type 081. More likely, it will be Type 07x like all the other amphibious ships where x between 5 and 8.
