Speaker Nancy Pelosi will travel to Armenia this weekend in a show of support for the country, which has been locked in a deadly fight with Azerbaijan, two people familiar with the visit told POLITICO.
Pelosi will make the journey accompanied by Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) after a stop in Berlin for the G-7 Speakers’ Summit. She’s expected to meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan, the capital, as well as other government officials.
It will be the speaker’s latest dramatic foreign trip following her contentious arrival in Taiwan last month. With the midterms approaching — and the possibility that she will lose the gavel if Republicans return to the majority — the belief in Washington is that Pelosi wants to cement her legacy as a champion of human rights, not only in the United States but around the world.
Speier, meanwhile, is one of a handful of Armenian-American lawmakers in Congress.
When asked about the upcoming trip, Drew Hammill, the speaker’s deputy chief of staff, said, “We don’t confirm or deny international travel in advance due to longstanding security protocols.” Speier’s office did not immediately return requests for comment.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been locked in a bloody, decadeslong feud over Nagorno-Karabakh, the territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but populated with ethnic Armenians. Two years ago, both nations fought their second big war over the contested land, leading to thousands dead and more regional power for Baku.
Violence erupted again last weekend, with officials in both capitals blaming the other for attacking first. Armenia claimed Azerbaijan’s military used drones, artillery, mortars and small-arms fire to target a number of border towns. Azerbaijan, however, said Armenian forces were moving into position for a long-term escalation of fighting.
More than 170 soldiers on both sides have been killed in skirmishes over the past few days, officials in Yerevan and Baku claim.
Russia said it had brokered a cease-fire Tuesday, but it was short-lived and violence continued into Wednesday.
Pelosi’s visit will mean a lot to the Armenian-American community, which has called for more political focus on the crisis. “Armenia has not received the kind of attention Ukraine has received, and this will shine a light on a country crossing an international border in violation of international law,” said Anthony Barsamian, co-chair of the Armenian Assembly of America.
But in China, Protestantism has spread beyond Catholicism.Vatican sought Xi-Pope meeting in Kazakhstan, China declined - source

When the whole thing is over a lot of Europeans might actually be begging or sweeping floors in India.
Off topic but Sometimes I forget how big Russia really is, or Kazakhstan for that matter.Iran will become a member of SCO.
If they make Turkish version of it. it will be much closer to reality. record breaking Europeans are visiting them and some may turned into long term residenets.

Out of all the Christian sects, China should encourage the Chinese Orthodox Church (which was granted autonomy by its mother church, the Russian Orthodox Church, in 1957) over the others. Unlike Catholicism, where the Pope is sovereign, the Orthodox practices Caesaropapism where the head of the church, the Patriarch, is subordinate to the head of state. Protestantism does not believe in any hierarchy as the relationship with God is personal and so disavows the Pope or any other authority over individual views on morality. The Central government is better able to exercise power with Orthodox Church to keep down the more Western influence via Catholic and Protestant sects and grow even closer to Russia and Eastern Europe. But in China, Protestantism has spread beyond Catholicism.
The influence of Korean missionaries is far greater than that of ordinary churches,.
In addition, some family churches only recognize the authority of the pope, which doomed the relationship between the two countries to be difficult to improve.
Many Chinese Christians show extreme intolerance. They will not hesitate to curse and abuse those "pagans" who refuse to convert, they even incited believers not to accept blood transfusions from pagans, not to see doctors when they were ill, and begged for God's blessing this makes the spread of Christianity a key prevention target in China.
Moreover, all kinds of strange theories that can make the pope dumbfounded have been derived all over China.
I have seen more than one rumor on the Internet that missionaries portrayed the founders of the country and ten marshals as Messiah and the apostles(Many rural believers do not read the Bible and do not know that there are twelve apostles).

Unfortunately, I lost some screenshots.
One of the most exaggerated things I don't have a screenshot of, but it's just too impressive to me. One user said he saw missionaries not only claiming that Mao and Jesus Christ were the same person, but even mixed in Warhammer 40,000's Emperor of Mankind.
should read the original. it reads nothing like how they claim it reads.I concluded the same.
Reading the leaves, it seems that China won't give the same treatment to Russia as it did before (basicaly treating it as an equal miltary/economic/diplomatic/sphere of influence power)
The next 6-12 months are going to be interesting, I very much think we will see further signs of this happening in the near future
I came across this interesting article describing Church of the East recently, which apparently had a long history in China. Would Church of the East give more influence to China compared to other sects of Christianity?Out of all the Christian sects, China should encourage the Orthodox Church over the others. Never heard about the Church of the East. That's very interesting...either way, whatever allows Christianity with Chinese characteristics is how China should approach it.I came across this interesting article describing Church of the East recently, which apparently had a long history in China.
