I don't think China intends to engage with that old witch at all. They'll rather let her leave and then commit a military operation, allowing America a clear path to back down from a conflict they would have no involvement in.

China has through rhetoric the last few days created the correct atmosphere to pursue moves that lead towards military resolution of the civil war.

Perception. It shows Taiwan that China is confident enough in their military strength to violate Taiwanese airspace. It shows the domestic public that you will not be cowed even by Americans. It shows the international public that China is willing to be dangerous and reckless if their toes are trodden upon. It would have shown them that China isn't all bluster which, mark my words, will be the international takeaway from this if China does nothing else in this crisis.

Perception is important but he say interception not violating TW airspace. Then maybe PLA do not feel confident enough to violate Taiwan airsapce

Here's what will happen if Taiwan isn't severely punished by China in the coming weeks.

1. Chinas neighbors would feel emboldened and would happily act against Chinas interests with Zero fear. Don't overlook todays event as some politician visiting Tawian. This was a message from US to all the neighbors as to look how they entered Taiwan and China could do nothing because they fear US Military. So no need to fear China, we are here to protect you.

2. More and more countries would start chipping away OCP by sending their officials (definitely expecting EU to follow up after Pelosi).

3. Developing nations who were looking upto China so as to escape American Hegemony would stop doing so as they must be thinking that if China cant protect its own territorial sovereignty than how will she protect them from US.

4. Loss of National Morale (most imp). Absence of action in coming months would mean that people would inculcate in themselves the idea that the reason PRC didnt act was because of fear of losing to US Military. American superiority will get ingrained in the minds of the people.

Hence its imperative that something severe is carried out in coming months. Nobody cares if you ban some products, carry out drills, slap sanctions or fly into their ADIZs. Need something much more concrete to send a global message .

Imperial Japan thought Americans were weak with their Hollywood and hedonism. And Japan arguably had the best equipment and best trained naval pilots during WWII, certainly better than America during the initial stages of the war.

America’s strength lies in its vast resources. It has the best piece of real estate on the planet with only 350 million people. The Native Americans took good care of this land. People here get to live in 3000 - 4000 sqf houses, drive 2-3 cars per family. You don't see that in Europe or anywhere else.

This is an example of the type of shit this weakness emboldens.

China could have made Pelosi and the whole DPP entourage look like headless chicken in front of a worldwide audience.

What I would have done: get a live feed from the airport, wait for visual confirmation that it's Pelosi who is stumbling down the stairway, then send a hypersonic dummy missile at Mach 5+ right across the airport. Seeing their faces live on stream would have been priceless.
