The AS500 tethered high-altitude balloon. It's designed to stay aloft for two weeks and provide broadband communications coverage to an area of 10,000 square kilometers, especially useful for small islands and other isolated areas. Tests conducted with dummy payloads have verified that its flight performance meets all design parameters. Next, it will be integrated with broadband communications equipment to carry out demonstration and further verification.

Since China can make this, does China have Aerostat mounted low altitude radars similar to US's JLENS? The idea sounds interesting, but I don't know how practical it is.

Nothing officially confirmed, but I can't imagine China isn't at least working along similar lines, assuming they don't already have a deployable system. I recall that an aerostat was deployed in South China Sea back in 2019, although there's no official information on what payload it carried.

COMAC's ARJ21 Just Carried Its 5 Millionth Passenger​

As an OTT airlines flight MU5264, operated using COMAC's ARJ21, landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) on Jul 12th, the ARJ21 reached an important milestone. The Chinese-built regional jet has now transported 5 million passengers since it was put into commercial operation in 2016.

ARJ21 production capacity, orders, and deliveries

It is publicly reported for the first time that COMAC has already manufactured 100 ARJ21 aircraft to date, according to Xinhua's news report. COMAC delivered its 67th and 68th ARJ21 to Chengdu Airlines and China Southern at the end of last month. So there are at least 32 ARJ21 that already rolled off the final assembly line (FAL), waiting to be delivered.

Despite not being FAA certified this plane is probably safer than the original Boeing 737 MAX which was certified by the FAA. This raises the question of whether the FAA is imposing a politically motivated denial on the ARJ21.

Most likely yes

Hardly anything nowadays coming from US government and agencies are NOT politically motivated.

China's home-grown C919 jet nears certification as test planes complete tasks​

SHANGHAI, July 23 (Reuters) - China's homegrown C919 narrow-body jet, designed to challenge the Airbus-Boeing duopoly, is nearing certification as its test planes completed all of the test flight tasks, the company said on Saturday.

The state-owned manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC) said on its official social media account that the six test planes have finished the testing tasks as the programme enters the final stage of receiving a certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China which is required for commercial operations.
