I think the Chinese automotive sector is going to change a lot in the next 10 years especially since foreign ownership limits have been removed this year. The SOEs will probably be the worst hit

SAIC is probably going to lose their market position and get merged since the majority of their sales are from joint ventures. It's crazy how despite selling 5 million cars a year they still don't have a decent brand of their own and still rely on imported engines. Maybe something like a SAIC+Chery+JAC+Li Auto merger since they're all located in the pearl delta.

Dongfeng and FAW are also zombie SOEs that rely on tons of sub-brands to confuse consumers into buying their crappy cars. Their cars are completely uncompetitive by international standards, not just in ICE but also in EV tech. I have honestly no idea how they're going to survive.

Changan, BAIC and GAC are the SOEs that will be fine since they've actually been making effort to build up their own brand and technology. GWM is a private company that seems to have quite strong branding though only for SUVs, but they're currently making the mistake of making too many brands like POER, WEY, Tank, ORA.

Private companies like Geely, BYD, Nio, Xpeng will probably get a significant boost. Geely's recent volvo-fication and new EV brand Geometry are good steps.
Doesn't SAIC develop SGE for GM? Besides, MG, Maxus, Roewe, Wuling brands are quite successful in China and abroad. Meanwhile light trucks aside, JAC cars aren't super popular in China. BAIC is even worse. The only reason why they haven't went bankrupt yet is because they have "Beijing" logo on their cars and their joint venture with Mercedes. Literally, name a single model of theirs that is successful in recent years. IMO Changan and SAIC are the most successful SOE, with GAC and FAW (Hongqi) distantly behind.

Wait really? I was under the impression SAIC was only a minority stakeholder in the SGE development, and that it's produced overseas. Still, at the end of the day Roewe is a ripped off Rover with no design style of their own. I don't think they'll survive in a liberalised auto sector. MG will probably do better but I just can't imagine any top carmaker using a foreign marque for most of their production

You're right about BAIC. Only reason I put them with Changan and GAC is because they're undergoing a rebranding exercise and I have some hope for their new lineup.

I wasn't aware that the infamous Jordan B. Peterson is now a renowned geopolitical-economics expert and Sinologist.

He meets all the requirements to be regarded as a China 'expert':

1. Doesn't speak a single word of Mandarin
2. Has never been to China
3. Sources all his information about China from MSM, Gordan Chang, /r/China, and neolib think tanks
4. Is predicting the impending collapse of the Chinese economy

The guy's an idiot. He's no different from all the rest just repeating all the negative spins on China heard from the past. The fact is there's a bi-polar world at hand and hopefully a multipolar world in the future. These finance guys are in panic because if there's another choice for people to put their money in. They won't be putting it in the US meaning Wall Street won't be making any money from it. And remember this is all the West's doing. China didn't one day say they were going to create alternate system from the West. The West forced an alternate system because of their arrogance trying to force China into surrendering believing China had no choice when forced into that position. What they epically got wrong was believing the bull that they were indispensable to the world. It's not like that they had their smartest people figuring it out. No it's simply they wanted to believe that no one else can live without them. And this is where it comes in that they don't see their own racism as a national security threat. It don't make them think reasonably. Take a look how whatever variant of Omicron is out there now. I don't see the West being immune like they said they were being inoculated with their superior vaccine. The country that handled COVID the worst ain't in a position to tell the country that handled and still is handling it best how to deal with it. This guy is only a cheerleader for America because if reality were happening the way he paints it, he wouldn't have to be saying this at all. There's a pessimism hanging over the West because they know they can't stop China without being that monster that put them where they're at today. It certainly wasn't diversity.

Can you provide a more detailed critique of some of his claims?

Did you watch the video? If so what is your take on Peterson's rationale and opinion with respect to China's apparent impending doom.
But why should he watch the video??? You posted it without comment yourself! I watched about 30 seconds, and like everybody else who has commented, I'm convinced is 100% shit. It's all about some special American ability to solve problems because "we have freedom", as if China doesn't solve a miriad problems on a daily basis, and as if the US isn't stuck on quite a few seemingly unsolvable problems today.
