What form of payment is Russia accepting, and through what payment system?
Possible chain of payment from my understanding.

First off, SWIFT is a transaction messaging system, not a trade system. It sends a message (like an email) from one account to another. The sending account will deduce amount X, and receiving account increase by X. What the receiver does to the sender next is another story, can be done in other forms and through another channel, not necessarily via SWIFT. CIPS can be that alternative, or physical gold.

SWIFT has not cut some Russian banks off because EU want to buy Russian oil. These Russian banks receive EURO through SWIFT. They can transfer the oil EURO to a Chinese bank connected to SWIFT. The same Chinese bank in term can transfer equivalent amount of RMB to the Russian banks via CIPS according to the exchange rate of Rubel and RMB. Russia can use RMB to buy whatever she want from China or any country that accept RMB via CIPS.

The same thing can be done using the Russian SPFS system as well.

Russia can trade with any country who has access to both SWIFT and CIPS/SPFS.

It is troublesome at the beginning, but once banks have opened their accounts in CIPS or SPFS, everything will be back to normal, as easy as using SWIFT, in terms of doing financial transactions.

Cutting off SWIFT is just a short term annoyance. The long term effect is that both dollar and Euro will loose big chunks of their portions as world reserve currencies. The only beneficiary is RMB.

The real action to hurt Russia is to block Russian exports and imports physical goods. But that is suicidal for the Europeans.

There is a report about 4 Chinese nationals killed in a strike on a dormitory in Ukraine. Apparently the Ukranian president confirmed it:confused::(

"Exclusive from Chinese Embassy in Ukraine: ‘Chinese students killed in Kharkiv school’ fake news"

"After verifying with the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture, the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine told the Global Times exclusively
that previous media reports that said two Chinese students in the academy were killed in their dormitory by Russian bombing
were false.

Some media outlets including those holding a longstanding anti-China stance like Radio Free Asia and the Epoch Times, citing
Ukrainian local media Obozrevatel, reported that the Russian army opened fire and killed 13 students in the academy, including
four Chinese students, two of whom were Jin Tianhao and Li Zhi.

However, after verifying with the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture, the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine told the Global Times on
Friday that there were no Chinese students named Jin Tianhao or Li Zhi in the institute."

"As far as we know, only one Chinese national has been injured during the Ukrainian crisis. He was shot on his way from
Kiev to Lviv amid the Russia-Ukraine confrontations, but was treated timely and has been discharged from the hospital,
the embassy said, noting that it is trying to help him return to China."

"There are about 2,700 Chinese students in Ukraine that need to be evacuated, but time is limited and the situation is
complicated, the spokesperson said."

Sanctions failed so many times but the West just keeps trying and hoping for a different outcome this time.

Didn't the West just ban RT and many pro-Russian media and people.

It is only going to drive up the oil prices in the US. Guess this is what the big oil wants.

The PBS interview is a good demonstration of hypocrites. Blurring the painting of a Nazi collaborator to hide the fact the mayor is a Nazi sympathizer. The West during the cold war had trained so many Islamic extremists and today they made the same mistakes of enabling Nazi and fascists. They never learned that their actions today would come back to bite their ass one day.

That sure sounds like a real name, and not something someone got out of a travel phrasebook.

During the First World War, exaggerated or sometimes fabricated stories of German atrocities (some of which were real)
in Belgium were successfully used to mobilize British public support for the war. A particularly inflammatory kind of
'atrocity story' was about nuns being allegedly gang-raped by German soldiers.

"Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Friday that Russian soldiers had committed rape in Ukrainian cities.
Kuleba did not give any evidence for his claim. Reuters was unable to independently verify the claim.
"When bombs fall on your cities, when soldiers rape women in the occupied cities - and we have numerous cases of,
unfortunately, when Russian soldiers rape women in Ukrainian cities ..."

How could Ukraine's government 'know' that there already have been 'numerous cases' of rape?
Have 'numerous' Ukrainian victims filed complaints with Ukrainian authorities?

"Rape Rhetoric and Russia’s War on Ukraine
Putin’s rhetoric towards Ukraine is characteristic of rape culture—and the international community can’t afford to ignore it."

"Those who enact state violence also often employ rape rhetoric. Two weeks before giving the order to invade Ukraine, Putin
was reported to have made reference to a joke about marital rape, saying,

invasion of the country, campaigners have warned."

"Oksana Pokalchuk, the director of Amnesty International Ukraine, warned female civilians will bear the brunt of Russia’s invasion.
Speaking to The Independent from a bomb shelter in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, Ms Pokalchuk said: “It will have a bad impact
on women in the country. Domestic violence and sexual violence rises in wars.'

I am not naive about the brutal realities of war or about the ways that men often 'take advantage' of powerless women.
I would be hardly surprised if some Ukrainian women were or will be raped by Russian soldiers.
But the existence of 'numerous' war crimes requires more supporting evidence than a Ukrainian government claim.

I would add that Westerners (including women) have seldom shown sympathy or even belief toward the many
non-Western women and girls who have been raped by Western soldiers.

Just to add a little bit of my dated (>20 years ago) experience with SWIFT:

1. SWIFT is just a messaging system for financial institutions. Due to its universal adoption, it's used by almost every country
2. SWIFT is not a technology. Due to its extensive usage, it has different messaging protocols cove all aspects of human financial transactions.
3. It is convenient, secure, and universal. So everybody uses it.

TL;DR: SWIFT is like the universal language agreed upon by fin institutions around the world to talk to each other. If Russia insists upon using SPFS or CIPS as the official language to talk business, anybody who wants to do business with Russia will learn to speak SPFS/CIPS.

It undermines the authority of SWIFT to make it political. But here we are.

Talking about new technology, the digital Yuan is new. SWIFT/CIPS/SPFS are not.
