Very true. The F-35 breach of contract was never about S-400. However, Turkey got what it needed from the F-35. And they're now applying that experience on the TFX. Despite the short term pain, the long term outlook is very positive. A lot of new technologies will be localized, put into mass production and rapidly improved on the TFX.

The S-400's missiles and radars will also provide invaluable input for the development of domestic air defence systems. It is a win-win both ways.

I also have a feeling the F-35 program may be cancelled by the US a lot sooner than most think. The development of NGAD/J-XY will make it uncompetitive, and the USAF/USN will not keep buying such a plane.

The father of the Bayraktar brothers, Ozdemir Bayraktar unfortunately passed away...

Özdemir Bayraktar, Our father, our source of inspiration, received God's mercy today. He lived a dedicated life without compromising his values. He became one of those who researched and produced with his unyielding determination. He never gave up in the face of injustice, he helped as much as he could. Rest in peace.

thanks
This F-16 deal is presumably backed by the Biden admin and partially a way for Turkey to get its $1.4 billion back. It is also a test to see if the US-Turkey relationship is able to be saved. If the congress stops this deal than Turkey has no alternative but to look elsewhere for defense matters and thus ending whatever defense relations the US and Turkey have.

Imo the reason for denying the F-35 was not perse the S-400, but long term grievances Turkey and the US had since the start of the Syrian conflict where the US and other 'allies' abandoned Turkey entirely and supported a terror group in Syria against Turkey. Turkey can easily get back into the F-35 program despite the S-400 purchase. For this to happen, Turkey 'just' needs to recognize the YPG/PKK statelet on its border. It is akin to Turkey drinking a cup of poison if it does that.

I personally think that the F-35 program has something to do with the 2016 coup?

Turbofan engines for the TF-X:

View attachment 78312

DefenceTurkey magazine 110 on page 97

Sorry, but the Ukrainian way with a company that has de facto no experience in modern afterburners high-thrust turbofan engines, was almost up for sale to China and now has an uncertain future is IMO a partner that only brings additional uncertainty and the reason for this way can only be than none of the other major players in aeroengine business are willing to provide their technology, not even at any cost. You simply don‘t sell your crown-jewellery for a few $$.

I know I‘m probably the most critical/sceptical one here concerning this project but this decision is only yet another reason to see it my way.

Anyway, all the best and time will tell.

But they do have experience in other turbofan engines which in principle works the same. And btw they do have a working afterburning turbofan engine the AI-222-25F. "By using a great experience gained in the development of AI-222-25 , AI-222-25F and D-27 engines the AI-9500F with a thrust of 9.5 tons of force is under study for using as integrated in the power plants of light combat airplanes.

What has China to do with whether Ivchenko Progress can meaningfully contribute to the co-development of the TF-141?

and now has an uncertain future is IMO a partner that only brings additional uncertainty
From what I understand about Ukrainian aero-engine industry is that they have experience and knowledge, but lack funding. A particular design that comes to my mind is the AI-9500F medium thrust engine aimed for the single engine light-weight fighter market that to me still seems in limbo. A Turkish (or from wherever) capital injection can revive Ivchenko Progress' developments. This investment creates certainty, especially after Motor Sich is providing Baykar and TAI engines for the Akinci, MIUS and T-929 (and presumably also cruise missile engines) for the value of $600 million.

Says who? I get the opposite impression especially after last Septembers visit of Erdogan to Russia wherein Turkey and Russia made certain steps in engines, warplanes and especially aircraft engines according to Erdogan:

It seems Turkey is not going all in but tries to diversify its potential co-developers as the news about Ivchenkno Progress being a potential candidate is from last July as it was then for the first time mentioned in DT magazine issue 108:

Indeed, there is no selling of such technology but co-developing certainly is a possibility.

It has turned into cynicism ;)

Anyway, all the best and time will tell.
This I agree with you.
