That was a good point IMHO. For example, the CCP salami sliced the South China Sea, but they backed it up with planes, missiles, and warships.

The current so called salami slicing of Taiwan, there is nothing new backing it up, just the same, but that is changing, and not in Tsai's direction.

All we have here is Alice sitting at the table sipping her tea, and the rabbit stands up and shouts, as the rabbit lifts it over his head, "Look how big my salami is!"

Just another tea party in Wonderland!

:D

Well, I remember that it was Hilary Clinton that loudly made the announcement that the South China Seas was a core national interest for China.

The funny thing is, normally it's the Chinese foreign ministry putting out this sort of announcement.
Instead, it was Clinton broadcasting this to the world for days before any comment from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
In Geoff Dyer's book, it's confirmed that Clinton "refreshed" her memory.

In the aftermath, look at how that move backfired on Clinton.
She thought China would fold and the other South China Seas claimants would flock to the USA for support and protection.
Instead, China owned the statement and built island bases which now dominate the South China Seas, without any reaction from the US.
And all the other countries in the SCS have taken note of this.

There's lots of other lessons here as well.

kishore mahbubani in his book mentioned this 1too that it was during Obama regime that the US unilaterally up the stakes in SCS. The Western media however always claimed china militarised the region first and setup the narrative china is a bully and threat whereas it was US that provoked China into responding.

Oh my, how you guys have fun whilst some of us from a different time zone are asleep. So we finally got rid of this annoying (but mostly harmless, I had to say) know-it-all. (Self proclaimed).

I wonder what the Nobel economic winning Jai Hind resident Economist here a.k.a. @SleepyStudent going to say about this recent development. He's probably going to declare this winning!! For the U.S.

Please, he maybe many things, but he's no economists. He's the kind that give us actual economists a bad name.

Please. Dont summon him here. You have already seen how he derailed so many other threads. Hopefully he wont do the same here

Lol. I got visions of a seance with all of us around a table in a dimly lit room. Lol

The biggest mistake that Americans cannot help but make when sizing up China is the belief that Chinese people are oppressed and against their government but helpless to fight back. I don't know if they really believe this because they are too simple-minded to understand a rival perspective or if they purposefully lie to themselves because they are too scared to come to terms with the reality of facing a Chinese government backed by 1.4 billion Chinese who want to see China on top.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your view point. I think his kind do really think Chinese are living under some "1984" types of repressive regimes

That is one of the most delusional lines I've seen, given that Matt Pottinger is supposed to be a China expert.

1. It's straightforward to install Google chrome or another browser onto a Chinese phone, then use google.

2. The vast majority of Chinese students going to the USA have to pay a minimum of $30K per year for tuition and living expenses.
If they want a second smartphone, they can most certainly afford to buy one themselves.

No wonder China policy under the Trump administration was so messed up.

Shhhh. Remember Napoleon and all that. Never interrupt........ etc.

Gosh. Pottinger knows the Chinese language, yet he knows nothing about mainland Chinese. I bet he is surrounded by Taiwan frogs and the cultists. We are lucky to have him in the upper echelon of the Trump regime.

Yes, him and Ron Vara and fat (loss weight) Pomp. Very lucky indeed.

trying to ignore him now, his presence has done enough damage.

I thought we were, I ignored him as soon as he insulted ALL economists. Economists tends to be in different camps, ie Keynesians, Chicago schools. Etc. Yet, he managed to poopoo them all by announcing mony printing is inflaruin risk free. Talk about arragance.

If you really are a lawyer as you claim, then you should know how much extortion money that will cost the US justice department alone.

So he's claiming to be a lawyer as well! Gee, is there no end to this man's talents? Lol

The way I see it, this latest move from Lithuania is just another salami-slicing move

Yes, but they are only the puppet. We all know who's pulling the strings.

Yes I was meaning to ask. How come he just got deleted? Obviously he must have made some vile post, and that post has got deleted which I can't see being a late comer to this show.

But shouldn't they get a warning. I never seen straight deletion before.

Over 10 years already passed, it's interesting to check the said "Clinton Trap" whether or not it worked in catching its Asian preys... often words are too easy to compose...

as well as to check how good and honest is the vision of the author, GEOFF DYER,

Power play in the South China Sea (10 AUG 2010)

US dominance is giving way to a more uneasy balance of power, writes GEOFF DYER

The US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, told a regional meeting in Hanoi (end of July 2010) that the US was willing to act as a mediator in talks over the islands in the South China Sea disputed by, among others, China. As such, Mrs Clinton’s speech is one of the most striking symbols of the diplomatic battle that will define Asia for the next few decades – a tussle between the US and China to be the dominant voice.

The Clinton statement had two goals. One was to emphasise that in Asian diplomacy, the US is back. During the presidency of George W. Bush, some Asian governments felt that the US had lost interest in the region. Whether this impression was justified or not, she was telling Asia’s leaders that the US is not packing its bags any time soon.

But the Obama administration also has to make up for lost time. Over the last decade or so, China has stolen a march on the US in Asia. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq proved to be a strategic gift for Beijing.

In Asia’s new diplomatic contest, the momentum is still very much with Beijing. While the US faces debts and deficits, China could easily grow by 8 per cent a year for one if not two more decades and its naval power will also inexorably expand.

Yet Mrs Clinton has laid a trap for Beijing in the South China Sea. If China stands up to US interference in its backyard and presents itself as the regional power, it risks pushing wary neighbours into the US camp. Indeed, this is the broader diplomatic test that China faces in Asia over the coming decades. The more dependent Asian countries become on China’s economy, the more uneasy they will be about its power. The ball is very much now in Beijing’s court.

Probably because he manage to derail 3-4 threads in a single day and thus I guess that he gathered dozens of reports from other members.
He might even hold the record for the most reports a member has ever gotten in such a short period of time lol

Right. I supposed some of his posts also got deleted, so as I haven't seen them I can't really comment too much. I have noticed some of his posts have been edited by MODS.

It's the member known as sleepystudent. He wasn't warned or banned, so you wouldn't find him there. It's a straight deletion, no questions asked!

You know what, I think I am actually miss this guy.

1. He did not really know too much about the things he posted about. 90% of his points or counter-points had no meaning at all. So essentially he was harmless.

2. Everything was set in stone for him, like those tablets Mosses brought down from that mountain. Has to be true because I saw it on TV. Many threads talk about the future, and he had all the answers like Mosses. That was kind of funny. Money printing is good!

3. It was totally Alice In Wonderland. That part I am going to miss. The teachings of Lewis Carroll kind of like unique to the English speaking world, and here was a fervent believer in Alice's tea parties, especially with the guy in the hat, and the other guy in the rabbit suit.

4. Don't laugh.

Look at the White House.

It was Orange Man in Wonderland, but the great American superhero fought off his detractors, only to have the election stolen from him. Orange Man will be back.

Today is it Senile Man in Wonderland. Instead of Alice going to Hanoi, Kamala was sent there to have tea. Instead of sugar and cream, they used cane juice and Agent Orange.

It was a marvelous tea party. Do come again.

:D
All I can say is that be careful what you wish for. Matt could come back with a vengeance and you'll wish you can take all back what you said. I for one wish him nothing but good riddance to bad old rubbish.
