Rare (currently the only one in existence) documentary from 2013 about the training of tanker crew in the Taiwanese Army. It's in Chinese so many of you might not understand.

Part 1:
Part 2:
In this video the ROCA instructor has mentioned that ROCA tankers need to run through the entire firing process under 6 seconds (from target spotting to fire?) because the PLA's firing process takes 7 seconds. Is this true?

2015 documentary about ROC army stationed in the remote islands of Kinmen and Matsu (though they are islands themselves already both have an assortment of even smaller islands).

David Axe at his best, ... or worst depending up your view of him.

The key points in this article is that now that PLA has large amphibious assault ships and other modern landing ships, as well as air superiority, it can now launch landing operations from multiple avenues simultaneously, including more accessible southwestern beaches, rockier northern ones, and even threatening from the east. This will be much more challenging now for Taiwan to defend against. What is the counter strategy then? David Axe suggests it's lobbing missiles at the Chinese fleet.

One counter point to Axe's argument that previously PLA's single-axis invasion plan was due to lack of more capable amphibious assault ships and other large landing ships and therefore had to rely on many commercial ships. While it's definitely helpful to have more LHDs and LPDs - 3 more 075's and 8 more 071's are planned - the primary challenges to a successful landing operation of Taiwan was actually not lack of capable ships, it was lack of air dominance and air control over Taiwan theater before and during the operation.

It appears that how to counter a PLA invasion of Taiwan has become a national pastime for the Americans, at least among the community of armchair generals, retired generals as well as military think tanks. In general, views are overwhelmingly pessimistic that Taiwan can prevent the landing of PLA on Taiwan at all, even with the intended invention from the US. Nevertheless, these people aren't going to give up, or at least concede that the best option for Taiwan is to seek a political solution with PRC. That's not acceptable, ... for the Americans, simply because for them, it will be the end of American hegemony in Asia.

So what's the solution? A total war by Taiwan, as this National Interest article advises.

Taiwan will seek to inflict the most damage on the invading forces in the littoral zone, where their home-field advantage is the greatest. Taiwanese forces will then shift to preventing the PLA from establishing beachheads. If the PLA gets boots on the ground, then not just the army but also the civilian population will be mobilized for a whole-of-society guerilla effort to prevent the occupying forces from advancing inland and establishing re-supply chains. At that point, every Taiwanese citizen will be conscripted into what could escalate into a wholesale urban war. As Lee Hsi-ming put it, “It is the onus of the Taiwanese people to decide their fate and fight for their existence.”

I'm almost moved to tears by the suggestion, which reminds me of maybe the best-known Churchill speech that he delivered to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on 4 June 1940, during perhaps the darkest hours in WWII facing the British Isles.

... We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

In this case, the New World should probably be replaced by the US.

Not to be blunt but if it is a Patton going up against a Type-99 or Type-96, does it really matter? But to answer your question, that figure is probably outdated. Back even in 2014, a second tier tank like the Type-96A could achieve this while traveling at 20-30kph.

I don’t see Taiwan as a great location for tank vs tank battles anyway. Whatever land that isn’t marshy or urban is mountainous, which makes it hard for heavies like the M1 and Type-99. Loitering munitions and even traditional ATGM or anti-vehicle mines are way better counters for enemy armor.

Oh please spare us the "we will fight them on the beaches" speech from a racist who invented the concentration camp well before Hitler, from a by gone time.
