I don't think so. At least not as powerful as US, EU and China.

It's a function of how much market share of the company's products in respective country. Above a certain threshold, say 10%, it would need to get regulatory approval from the country to complete a M&A deal. Obviously,it's usually large country/market such as US, EU, China, Japan or UK that exceeds the market share threshold.

Let's compare to what India is doing.

They push the deadline to submit an interest to set up semiconductor plant in India second time. Sounds like not many companies interested.

$1billion is not alot of money for each company. All their equipment have to come from the west. Also. India government wants semiconductor plant for cellphone. At least need 7nm. Even global foundry doent have that technology. Probably, india government hoping for TSMC setup one up at India like what is happening in US. Lol.
$1billion is not enough.

Here's the good part. Mandating Indian companies must buy the chips. Wow, that's aggressive. I wish Chinese government mandating Huawei or ZTE buy Chinese chips 10 years ago. Lol.

Made in India 2025 through subsidies, the kind of stuffs made US launched a trade war against China in 2018.

India doesn't have a Fab yet let's see if they indeed able to set one up finally.
This is dangerous. India can buy ASML EUV and other advance equipment without any restriction. They can easily beat SMIC if they want to. This is US strategies to remove all factory from China to India. Imagine if USA sanction all chinese companies like Xiaomi and BBK electronic and replace by Indian company. India can capable to produce cheap product and has massive cheap labor and the market is also big.

Buying ASML EUV is only the beginning. How are they going develope the 5nm recipe? Intel and global foundry can't. You think newbie India can?

Well China's chip design is no longer lagging behind the commercial leaders now in almost all areas. It doesn't take that much or long to catch up with the design part of the problem. India can achieve that. Fabricating and domesticating all foundry tech is the challenge and if they receive freebies then yeah there is a potential risk India quickly becomes a chip making giant within a decade or so. Then again I don't know that much about this stuff only guessing.

It didn't take China long at all to lead so many fields and catch up with the rest where they can. All of that was also done mostly alone. Foundries and fab is just quite a lot more time demanding but India is barely even present on any of these fields. If they receive free boosts, they can catch up to China pretty quickly.

They can figure it out. They are many indian expats work with US companies.
Most of them are into IT and softwares Even for Intel, I think indians are in the management.
The experience has to be direct match.

Like liang mong song helped SMIC 14nm and 7nm. He was the main guy for TSMC finfet process.

It's still lagging, this is fact. China can't even produce proper DUV machine let alone EUV and still want to buy it from ASML and Nikon. There are many other semiconductor equipment that still dominate by US companies like LAM research etc. And I dont want to talk about software that dominate by android and ios.

LOL They can wreck it like all their military equipment.
They can easily beat SMIC if they want to.
India can't easily do anything other than get Indians killed. I'd worry about Nigeria beating SMIC before India.
This is US strategies to remove all factory from China to India.
So far, they've rioted and burned down an Apple factory before it even began to sell.
Imagine if USA sanction all chinese companies like Xiaomi and BBK electronic and replace by Indian company.
Then China will become self-sufficient and sell to the rest of the worst while the US will have to deal with whatever abominations India manages to make.
India can capable to produce cheap product and has massive cheap labor and the market is also big.
That's India's dream but China took the last train on that line.
They can figure it out.
That would be a first time Indians figured anything out. It's quite funny that China, with its record of actually figuring everything out and making almost weekly progress updates on lithography, causes you to see nothing but dangers and pitfalls while India, a nation known for failing at everything causes you to casually say, "They'll figure it out" on what is pretty much the most difficult tech in the world.
They are many indian expats work with US companies.
The ones that ran Intel into the ground so that the US has to try to rob TSMC now.

"They can figure it out." LOL Except when I say it, it's backed by a history of success and current live updates on them actually figuring it out.
