Let's compare to what India is doing.

They push the deadline to submit an interest to set up semiconductor plant in India second time. Sounds like not many companies interested.

$1billion is not alot of money for each company. All their equipment have to come from the west. Also. India government wants semiconductor plant for cellphone. At least need 7nm. Even global foundry doent have that technology. Probably, india government hoping for TSMC setup one up at India like what is happening in US. Lol.
$1billion is not enough.

Here's the good part. Mandating Indian companies must buy the chips. Wow, that's aggressive. I wish Chinese government mandating Huawei or ZTE buy Chinese chips 10 years ago. Lol.

Made in India 2025 through subsidies, the kind of stuffs made US launched a trade war against China in 2018.

India doesn't have a Fab yet let's see if they indeed able to set one up finally.

This is not even remotely related to lithography machine; it has been clarified. Some people can get easily excited by something rather far-fetched or they're just cashing in on the craze on anything litho.

Why is that? The article is talking about the lightsource needed for EUV Lithography.

I don't understand why China would need to approve this deal, none is Chinese company ?
This is an un-written international practice if a large (significant) economy disapprove a mega-merger, its viability will be in serious doubt due to anti-monopoly risks. As a result, US and EU had been enjoying this de facto standard practice before Chine joined a few years ago. AMAT, in this case for example, takes the China silence as disproval. As a global semi equip co, AMAT has reasonable worries that China may one day use anti-monopoly excuse to hurt the company.

"........The Union government has once again extended the deadline for submission for expression of interest (EoI) from companies for setting up a semiconductor fabrication unit for a second time. The new date for the submission of the proposal will be 31 April 2020......"

ROFL As there are only 30 days in April, I guess the submission time will be kept open forever.

Kept open forever will damage its ego if there are no takers. It's most likely to happen. $1B incentive is peanut for a modern Fab.
