What is the big deal with the sanctions?

The Europeans still got the arms embargo in place.

Just off the top of my head, the J-10, the J-20, landing on the far side of the moon, quantum satellite, various radars, hypersonic glide weapons, even more rumours of that rail gun on a ship, that has all happened since that sanction was imposed.

How will it be any different now?

It will not.

:)
Hey Horse, Totally off topic : In the 19th century a country's territorial waters was determined by the range of her cannons which was put at 3miles. Now that China has a rail gun which can have a effective range of 1000ks

"Electromagnetic (EM) railguns offer the potential to fire projectiles at velocities up to 6 km/s. This could conceivably permit ballistic trajectories to reach very long ranges, perhaps 1000 km or more. To deliver a payload of interest and survive the aerothermal environment associated with hypervelocity, sea level launch, the projectile would need to be quite large, 500–1000 Kg. This in turn implies a launcher of prodigious size and mass. This paper examines the nature of an electromagnetic cannon required to achieve such capabilities....."

Therefore I suggest China should leave UNCLOS and return to the 19th century method of determiining ones territorial waters. Whay d'ya think;)

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying answered questions about whether China is concerned about the sanctions announced by a number of Western countries on Xinjiang-related issues at a regular press conference on Tuesday. "I can tell you with absolute confidence that we are not worried at all. The voices of these countries do not represent international opinion, nor do their positions represent that of the international community," said Hua.

"China government is nowhere close to collapsing"
That entire concept is completely bizarre and off the rail.
We cannot look at China and think that they are in position of weakness

Reminds me of MacArthur wanting to nuke China during the Korean War. Seems like psychopathy is a common condition among US military leaders?
I think very soon the US would threaten China with nuclear as it found out that it has no real leverages against China anymore. As predicted, Biden is forced to act tough against China to placate his supporters and allies.

1. I would not be surprised if it came to that. China would just threaten them back the same way.

2. Then China what might do is get others the same weapons. If that is the world they want, then that is the world they will have.

Just leave RCEP out of it.
