I think the US 1%er Elites are in agreement of the need to militarily and financially contain China so they can continue pillaging Asia; in this sense, the economics are going to have to defer to the security establishment.
Unfortunately for them they are decades late to try to effectively contain China
They might have more success if they try that in early 1990s not now

I think china should start hunting down American 1%ers, their families and their servants like Pompeo, extraditing them back to China to answer for their crimes against the People.

You've been talking as if Australia feel pain now, but now they aren't. Now they feel pinching and they will feel for quite a few years, because it is impossible in short term to change Chinese imports of Iron, and if iron is still imported from Australia, the import by China from Australia may even increase like this year, but at least will keep stable for couple of years.

I believe Australia is gonna feel pain from 2025 onwards when new mines of iron in different countries appear in China supply chain.

China should let Australian sanctions stay in place to give a message to the world that the US cant even protect its most loyal ally (vassal).

This is a winning hand for China. In Asia people are pragmatic and when they see that even the loyal Australia cant be protected from the US they will get the signal and wont make the same mistake as Australia

@voyager1 The sanction will stay because China has an alternatives and one of those is the Unites States....LOL, so its cheeky for the US to advise China about Australia when they themselves eye its huge market...hehehehe

The way i see it, trade benefits China in 2 ways.
The first way, obviously you buy and sell goods needed and you get or give money, thats simple stuff and has been happening since people started trading.

2nd way is that with for example buying a lot.of stuff from a country you can also buy influence there. So now that Australia is restricting investments, is going to media war with China, throwing to jail Chinese reporters etc, it means that China doesn't gain any influence in Australia.

So why waste your time and money buying something that exists in many parts of the world from Australia and you can only get money traded and not influence?

Thus it is better for China to buy from Russia (agricultural products) to get it closer to the China's sphere. Better to buy more coal from Indonesia, better to get iron from Brazil to break it from the US influence, plus they have the phase 1 deal with the US so why deal with the vassal when you can deal with the Lord :)

And now China is in a better situation it can go to ASEAN countries and say look, I am not spending 10 Billion per year on coal from Australia anymore, what can you offer me so you can persuade me to buy coal from your country? The same applies to Brazil, African countries, Russia and many others.

Why waste money in Australia where you cant influence them, better spend it somewhere else to get them closer.

Very basic and sound logic.

I would substitute influence for goodwill though. :)

The heat is on and its getting hotter
I don't see China dial down the pressure on australia irrespective of what the americans said
Unless there is some concession made by the us in which i don't see it happening
australia is too insignificant of a country to be a bargaining chip

No way Australia is getting off this lightly even after the Alaska meeting.

As I said in a previous post, China will send a signal to the word on how commited it is to its punishments.

Expect iron mines set up in Africa and other regions, and expect divestment of chinese imports from Australia to other countries. China should be commited to go until the very end and unless Australia "capitulates" (take a backseat to the Quad, allow foreign investments etc) China should close off any chinese money going to Australia coffers funding their submarines and offensive weaponry programmes.

China has long shown the world of its economic carrots, now its time for economic sticks. I am expecting major economic offensive moves to continue against Australia.

Good first step from Australia on the genocide vote though
