Re: Chinese sub thread

I stopped using the program a year ago, but most of the developed aresa and cities in China seem to be constantly updated. Most of the pre-2003 photos are extremely blotted and low-res and making out details such as a sub would be impossible.

Not really

The Google Earth view of Beijing National Stadium shows them doing the foundation.

This photograph is from July 2006. I estimate there is at least 2 years separating the two. So the Google Earth view is from 2004 or before.

So I say these pics are genuine.

Its no secret that theres is at least one 94 out there with at least one 93 (likely more by now), its just that a lack of credible photos makes the subject matter hazy.

English-language sources, strangely enough, never discuss the modified Xia-class. But Chinese-language sources have for a long time claimed that China built at least one improved Xia-class to test technologies that would be used on the Jin-class.

You sure? I know ground was broken for the stadium in early 2004, but it was halted and didn't get started again until later that year. So that pic could be from as late as early-mid 2005. But I get what your saying man.

Yeah, I heard that rumor too about the second Type 92. It would certainly solve the enigma of why China only built one Xia, when two are needed for a basic underwater deterrent. From what I read, the second was launched sometime around 2005.

I don't think this image is the new Jin class, but I think this could be the modified Xia class that some of you have said existed.

I think this because the toward looks a lot more like Xia than what we've seen on the model of the Jin which is much smaller and completely within the hump.

This is the model I'm talking about. It looks a lot different than the submarine appearing in the other photo.

And it looks like that are doing some serious experiment on the model. They would not invest so much experiment on the model if they are not going to build a real thing base on that model.

Yep, that's a 092 mod with only 12 launching tubes of JL-2 SLBM's. PLAN is making some progress and just lets the one's concerned know :D .

Indeed the fact that PLAN made no effort of concealment seems to indicate that the sub is only a ´transtional type´ needed for development of new propulsion, sensor and weapons technologies.
(I would also not expect PLAN to employ the obviously inferior 12 SLBM configuration in their new ´real boomers´ in my humble opinion since these subs would be not effective.)

P.S.: Some news about the Hainan SSBN base? How much subs will it probably support? Any suggestions dear friends?

well, that seems to be what a couple of big shrimps are suggesting on Chinese bbs. I'm not convinced at all, since a lot of these speculations are due to the fact that most people expected more changes out of 092. And was there ever confirmation that they had a second 092 that got built?

It's not the speculations, since many of these guys know a lot more inside stories than you. I would say ABC/CBC is just clueless.

The most creditable model of 094 until today, the man is the chief designer of Chinese SSBN.

I don't see the propeller at the back of that model. Does it mean......? :china:

I can't comment on that, but I don't believe the model comes out from blue, especially shown in the hand of chief SSBN designer.

Another model recently posted by one of the "shrimp", very interesting. Said it's 096 and made by Bohai Shipyard. I don't believe you build a 24k gold coated model just for fun.
