Nah, that's far too good and quick for them. They should be sent to Xinjing re-education camp! Or spent 12 hours a day toiling the fields like all Chinese leaders have done in the youth. It will show them what a real world is like instead of being pampered at home.
What's so sad is these condoms haven't done a day's work between them. Yet they got the audacity to come out and demand changes from people who actually built the Hong Kong that are comfortably living in.
I actually had proposed something like this last year, but not re-education camp, not even a punishment. Maybe those under 25 can be granted amnesty/clean record if they are willing to do "community service". However, it would have to be amongst the rural poor in the mainland.
There was a mini documentary posted in another thread following a foreigner doing a few days of anti-poverty work in amongst the Yi people in Sichuan. Honestly, no one from a developed country can imagine this sort of life. I mentioned before that I am actually acquainted with a charity that works in this region (but not related to this video). A volunteer that traveled there was moved to tears just recalling the moment he saw the village. He was actually originally from HK and said he had never seen such poverty before.
These younger rioters (and non-rioters too) from HK should go there. See what life is like. They should be asked, "These are the poorest people in China, did you know that the central government does not ask for a dime from HK to help these people?". "You believe that the government must change for your benefit, but how would it benefit your fellow country-people?".
It still gives them a chance to give an honest and thought out answer of how full democracy in HK can benefit China if that is what they truly believe.
