Okay, so there's a lot of nationalism in this thread which is leading to wishful thinking.

30,000 American troops are in Okinawa. Amphibious ready group Task Force 76 is in Okinawa. It takes one day to sail from Okinawa to Taiwan.

Thus, America can land troops onto Taiwan in one day. Here's a timeline:
  • In the morning, the troops in Okinawa get on Task Force 76 (something they've trained for their entire career).
  • In the evening, Task Force 76 is in Taiwan.
By the way, attacking Okinawa also brings Japan into the war.
30,000 is the total stationed there, amphibious is much less. Why would they enter a war zone if conflict arises. If they do it before the conflict they will facilitate the start of the war and if they go after they will get sunk.

That's why I said, Japan will not allow US to use Japanese soil to fight China. Whatever forces are in Japan will sit out this war. Chinese Flankers have 1500KM combat radius. Thus the entire first island Chain is dominated by 600 Chinese flankers. J-10 with drop tanks can also come and pose significant threat Near Chinese coast. Not to mention ground and Ship based Missiles which can start raining on Japan if they allow US to fight China from Japanese soil.

1200+ Chinese 4th Gen planes + 50 J-20 dominate the region.

Those US marines can be sunk into the Sea by China before they even get 50 miles. China will dominate the air space near Taiwan.
The entire point of the Japan-America military alliance is to fight a war against China.

The entire point of the Okinawa base is to fight a Taiwan war. That's why the majority of American troops in Japan are stationed in Okinawa. They've been preparing for decades.

I disagree with you entirely, The whole point of Japan US alliance is to fight China if China attacks Japan. There is no reason why Japan will actively start that fight because of Taiwan which they already recognize as a part of China. If Japan fight China now, they can be nuked by China and Japan cannot rely on US to save them from Chinese nukes since any US nuke response will cause China to destroy US cities with nukes. A non-nuke power cannot rely on a nuke power to save them from nukes. There is a lot of talk about Japan being under US nuke umbrella but I think this is a hollow pledge that simply will not survive when push comes to shove.

Even without Nukes China can cause significant damage to Japanese cities with its conventional firepower. I do not see any kind of indication in the Japanese mindset that will make them start getting bombed by China just to save Taiwan.

Sorry to say this, but some of their English is really shit, particularly in the Navy boards which I mainly peruse.
I don't know who you're talking about, but the majority of the frequent pro-China posters here post in English no worse than your own. We're talking about the majority, not some stragglers that you can identify. And also, recognizing the types of English mistakes made consistently due to lack of language skills vs the mistakes made from sloppy writing is a skill you will need if you want to make claims about where people are or where they were educated.

Nationalism/patriotism is a consequence of indoctrination, that exploits human innate disposition towards group bonding and we-group demarcation. Yes, I am indoctrinated too. We all are. But at least I can step out of the enchantment. The idea that Taiwan's reunification with the mainland is key to a Chinese person's wealth and respect is not innate or natural. It is indoctrinated. That's how masses are controlled. That's how Japanese soldiers died for an emperor they never saw nor heard. Wake up.
You can step nowhere as evidenced by your drone-like anti-China, pro-Western advocation here, which was dictated to you by your environment. Taiwan belongs to China; Chinese people naturally identify with China; no one wants to be robbed of one's own property even if it's a trivial loss simply as a matter of honor. It's extremely simple even to people with just common sense. But you are highly indoctrinated and brainwashed so you could not see it and assumed that that ideal is wrong and CCP-taught because that's what your society taught you. You've allowed your indoctrination to override your common sense. I'm awake on a level that you can't even fathom because of how incapable you are of independent thought. You have expressed no opinions or ideas here that are not advocated for positively in your Western society, yet you accuse others of being brainwashed, which is the defining hallmark of sheeple.

What made you conclude that the content is garbage? Is that scene with the little children chanting: "We are small militia men, fighting U.S. imperialism. Uncle we must grow up quick and go to liberate Taiwan.", fabricated?
First of all, it's in black and white. It's devoid of modern content and thus only a reference for people who want to believe that China hasn't advanced since the black and white film era. Secondly, propaganda is often the selection of certain truths while omitting others. The people who made that video had an anti-China agenda and they went to search for evidence to support it. Because of this bias, it's garbage. America also indoctrinated its kids, although in a less militaristic-seeming way. I know because I was very pro-USA and anti-China until I went to college and saw a much larger world, realizing the total hypocrisy and evil of the US, and Trump wasn't even president back then!

Why do so many of you sound like those little children?
Because that they're saying is right and we have come to realize it in the West. What was taught was correct and those of us who were not taught that came to the same conclusion from our free thought despite living in a Western environment that wanted to brainwash us into people like you. We resisted and we displayed the critical and independent thinking skills that you vaunted but you yourself could not possess.

Generally, Chinese nationals who left China to live in the west becomes intensely patriotic after a few years after witnessing all the double standards first hand. I've spoken to numerous friends from Uni who were Chinese international students who went to the torch relay protection thing in 2008 and they all tell me that was the one time that they sang March of the Volunteers with feeling.
I am a European living in Europe as an expat. I understand that it is not easy for people from other continents and culture's to integrate in European societies. Most of the time it is not of their own fault. As a natural defense mechanism, they fall back to the only group they perceive accepts them: their ethnic people and homeland.

However, by virtue of not living and working in their homeland and feeling rejected in the foreign land, they develop an idealized and romantic view of their homeland. This can be dangerous. This is a mechanism that contributed to some of these people to be duped into joining terrorist cells. Other went to fight for ISIS in the Middle East, even though they were born and raised in Europe.

Stop and think why Taiwan matters in your life. What is your connection to that island? How will it improve your life if China reunifies with Taiwan? What will happen with your life if China doesn't reunify with Taiwan? Aren't there other, more meaningful pursuits in your life?

The Japanese island Yonaguni is 65 miles from Taiwan. Most of the route from Okinawa to Taiwan is part of Japanese waters.

Everybody on SDF has pretty thoroughly compared the airforces of America versus China. I think we can all agree that the United States and Japan have the capacity to maintain maintain air superiority along the Ryukyu Islands.

Now, this is a different story ten or fifteen years in the future. I think that by 2035, China has a decent chance of air superiority along the Ryukyu Islands. That's why I believe that now is not the right time for war in Taiwan.

30,000 is the total stationed there, amphibious is much less. Why would they enter a war zone if conflict arises. If they do it before the conflict they will facilitate the start of the war and if they go after they will get sunk.
There are 30,000 soldiers and tens of thousands more American civilians.

Task Force 76 has capacity for 5K troops. As Vincent said, America will first confirm local air superiority along the landing route. By that time, however, there will be more amphibious ready groups in position (and they may also be carrying troops from elsewhere).

So once air superiority is confirmed, America can sail tens of thousands of troops from Okinawa to Taiwan in one day.

Again, this all depends on the strength of the Chinese forces versus the American forces. In 2020 the American forces are superior. In 2035 it's a different story, which is why I again think China needs to have patience.

What you're suggesting is volunteering American troops to be Taiwan's human shields in the hope of deterring China from attacking. Not going to happen.
Yeah, America's going to send its troops to fight the war in Taiwan. Why else does America have tens of thousands of troops in Okinawa? Everybody knows why those troops are there.

The USA is drawing down its Marine forces in Okinawa because they are recognised to be too close to mainland China and therefore vulnerable to Chinese attack.

It is the property of my nation. As a Chinese person, I have rights to it.
How will it improve your life if China reunifies with Taiwan?
China will be reunited and the honor will bring me joy. Joy, which cannot be fulfilled by material things.
What will happen with your life if China doesn't reunify with Taiwan?
Then my life will be preoccupied with the thoughts of injustice, of being robbed of my honor and I will dedicate myself and my children to regaining that honor. I would rather enjoy other things but nothing is enjoyable without honor.
Aren't there other, more meaningful pursuits in your life?
Other? Of course, but but they are empty without the wholesome righteous joy of having one's honor. More meaningful than honor? None.

And no, "honor" is not an indoctrinated concept. Cavemen, even animals like gorillas, will kill you for insulting them even if you what you did was trivial. Honor is as natural an instinct as desire and happiness. Is this blowing your mind? Did your Western indoctrination teach you that Chinese have no honor and only want material things and Western "freedom?" LOL
