Chinese Economics Thread

LOL Australia will never ban the export of iron ore and other raw materials (except fissile materials) to China. It is almost half the Australian economy and the source of income that is supporting the rest of the country.

Orthan you are forgetting there are other sources of the exact same materials China currently buys from Australia. They just take a little longer to ship to China.

Australia banning the export of raw materials to China is like a restaurant owner asking half its regular customers to eat at the shop across the road. Currently Australia has recognised the enormous political blunders performed by the current government with even old conservatives coming out to voice concern about Morrison's lack of political savvy. He's a bit of a scaled down Donald Trump but without the means and material to do anything, throwing his nation to the slaughter at the behest of a demagogue who has no concern about the actual welfare of the Australian people and its economy.

news.com is a Murdoch media source. Follow it and you'll notice 100% of its material on China is heavily negative and politically based opinion pieces with close to no scrutiny of facts and very little actual evidence.

These puff pieces on how Australia can hurt China are hilariously unrealistic, written for genuine flag waving/wearing morons. Australia can hurt China by not selling stuff??! and raw materials at that... Jeeeeezus to think there are readers who don't laugh or cry at the thought. The major Australian businesses and stakeholders would start a revolution and topple the government BEFORE the country bans the comprehensive sale of raw materials to China.

Get real. Australia sells China overpriced dirt. China is Australia's ONLY customer of any real means and scale of purchase. It's literally about half Australia's economy. Even if it were 10% Australia's economy, Australian businesses and government will still not be banning the sale.

In fantasy world of Union Jack flag wavers, Australia is holding some leverage. In reality, Australia will be happy to sell to China for as long as it can while it uses that money to develop itself and search for new industries while this one trick pony slowly gets exhausted.

It seems that china will have to go for another infrastructure spending boom (more bridges to nowhere, IMO) in order to stimulate the economy, because the chinese consumer doesnt have the ability to do it.

If so, this is what happens when you have an export and debt driven economy.
Those bridges that go "nowhere" and "ghost cities" are called infrastructure development and when they are both ready, China creates another metropolis bigger than most small countries' GDPs. That's how Shenzhen was created, you know. The next big one is President Xi's XiongAn. In either case, even the bridges in China that lead to nowhere by Chinese standards still lead to more prestigious places than Portugal.

Infrastructure spending to create jobs and physical assets is better than printing money for rich people to push back into the stock market or pre-existing hyped asset.

one of the reasons that the Murdoch tabloid being so anti-China is Murdoch's wife slept with Tony Blair.
