I don't see why Jimmy Lai calling HK a police state is a problem. In fact Hong Kong should be a bigger police state. China should do a full court press to stamp out all pro-western colonial mindset out of Hong Kong. Why would they arrest Jimmy Lai and release him? It seems like China is still not serious about destroy Hong Kong identity.

As long as this separation between Hong Kong and mainland remains, it will always cause separatism to rise. This is fundamental human nature for separatism to rise when there is a difference between Hong Kong and mainland way of life. Hong Kong looks to the west as its role model. That simply cannot be allowed. It will always cause them to see themselves as superior and different from rest of Chinese.

The only way to prevent that is complete assimilation. Reeducation of young Hong Kongers should have been a priority. The more leeway China gives to Hong Kong, the more chaotic it will be. Its time to apply the Xinjiang solution to Hong Kong.

I am sure CCP will slowly realize that their soft approach is not working. And it will never work as long as Hong Kong is richer than mainland. They will try and fail and then will be forced to try more and more hardline approach.

Collapsing on the street can lead to serious injuries.
All help must be given to prevent collapse.

Dangling with piano wire from lamp post is efficacious in preventing collapse on streets.

This is the classic it's not what's been said, but the way he said it. He said it in a way as a massive negative for his audience. Which is why I and other find it so objectionable.

It is like calling someone a paki. Technically paki is short for Pakistani with no offence meant. But the racists uses it with intend to insult and cause offence.

Same way Jimmy Lai using it to try and paint a dark picture of Hong Kong police to the world.

What Jimmy Lai says is only given attention in the west, the current global hegemonic power that is extremely worried about China's rise and wants to contain it. Western animosity for whatever China does will keep rising regardless of what Jimmy Lai says. This is the key truth that China must understand. It cannot sacrifice its long term goal of a pacified and assimilated Hong Kong just to please the west that is already anti-China. So, stop catering to the west and realize the truth, there is no point losing your goals just to please the west.

This is the time for the new cold war. So, China must battle with all its strength. Including taking out troublemakers like Lai. Why is Apple Daily still not closed down? Its cause China is still being soft on Hong Kong. They made a security law but are not really applying it properly. They could easily use the security law to not arrest Lai for good with no Bail, infact send him to mainland as an example, but also shut down apple daily and all anti-China media in Hong Kong. But they are not doing it cause they are afraid to rock the boat. That's why Hong Kong will remain an anti-China place for a long time until China really cracks down.


Hong Kong chaos will rise again when they see an opportunity. If China allows fair election of Legco for example, they are bound to lose control. So, just delaying the election is not a solution. They must change character of how legco is elected. They could make it an appointed institution like it was in before 1990s.

Whatever solution China takes, one thing is for sure. Hong Kong must be fully integrated or it will remain restive. And if China has a weak government or chaotic situation, Hong Kong will utilize its separation and go for Independence. It might not happen now. But it will remain a long term threat that must be neutralized through complete integration.

Chinese already consider Christians to be too pro-western and following a western religion and consider them to be suspicious. The fact that many Hong Kong Protest leaders also christian is another indication to this. Christians are under serious dilemma right now. If they become too pro-western and go against China then China will most certainly make their life so hard they will either have to leave China or convert back to Chinese religions or atheism. New cold war is creating a line in the sand for them. They must abandon their pro-western ideology or face misfortune. Let's see what choices they make.
