The site CJDBY has quite a few extra pictures of the updated 136 in exercise firing its weapons. I couldn't download them, but thought i'd mention it for members here who are interested. One other point when are 138 & 139 likely to be given there MLU?

Thanks, got it. My thoughts in mind, this exercise is part of a trio of exercises conducted with in the South, East and North fleets about the same time. Good to see 136 doing her job. The South Fleet involved 161 Hohhot and 169 Wuhan, so that old ship is still being used.

138 and 139 are still active. Based on current trends, they may likely get an MLU but they won't be docking it for anytime soon. I think one of the pictures, second to the top, might have 138 or 139 in that picture, along with 136.

Third picture is a delight. I have been trying to find where the Type 726-4 decoy launchers are, as they are covered with green tarp on previous pictures, or obscured by the crane in the pier. Now you see it in full action.

This is cropped from one of the pictures above. The refitted 136 is on the left, and on the right is another Sovremenny, either 138 or 139.

From a distance, the refitted Sovremenny is easier to spot because of the white dome of the Type 364 radar on the rear that is set on a tower. Original Sovremenny does not have this radar.

The 956EM variant of the Sovremenny differs from all other Sovremenny in having a Bandstand radar at the rear of the ship in addition to having it in the front. From the rear, you can see this white dome at the rear. But the radar is set above the hanger and not on a tower, so the white dome looks lower.

Pretty a 054A, but armed with two dual-130mm naval artillery for shore bombardment/fire support, plus YJ-12 for taking out carriers and HQ-10 for point defense. Old Soviet ship on steroid.

The Sovremenny refit, as well as the Shenzhen refit, the Qingdao and Harbin refits and the 053H3 refits are also actually equipped with the Type 726 EW suite used with the 052C/D series, whereas the 054A uses a modified EW suite (Type 984?). There is very little information or seen in terms of EW when the Sovremennys were at their Russian form, other than ESM and a pair of decoy launchers. Now the ship is blistering with similar equipment you see on the 052D, and even on the capital ships like Liaoning, Shandong and the Type 075. In this area, this is quite a big jump. The fact that last four Type 054A switched to the Type 726-3 ECM unit suggests this unit is better than the previous unit (Type 984 or 981?) used used on the older 054A ships.

In addition the Hanzhou and Fuzhou refits are getting the SATCOM refits, but its possible these were already fitted before the ship was in MLU. Even if they are not refitted yet, the latter two, Taizhou and Ningbo are already sporting some additional antenna.

Shenzhen, Hanzhou and Fuzhou refits also sports this tall post on top of the mast like you see on the 052D, possibly for communication. These fittings on top are not found on the 054A.

These various fittings on the refits suggest to me these ships are more than than 054A on steroids and YJ-12.
