Hong-Kong Protests

Yes, the rioters have command of the biggest trashy paper in the city, it has command of the TV stations. It has command of all the journalist, trade unions. It even command fire crews, and border guards, even the water police! Major companies like Cathy pacific, etc. It has command of the places of learning, from university tutors, college lecturers, school teachers, down to kindergarden teachers. And command of all the churches of all faith!

China really dropped the ball on these important establishments.

So basically, the government of Hong Kong control or influences nothing but the police, which is why the thugs hates the police!

God help Hong Kong, send in the troops!
Gate. what "troops" would you "send in"

Yeah totally agree. There's been saturation in the media of so called Chinese spying and interference in Australian politics but no solid evidence just some shaky links and donations. Aus media and gov is hell bent on creating anti China feelings through biased reporting on hk and propaganda. This guy will serve their purpose until he is used up.

This is why I think we should not give this any more legitimacy by discussing it!

Well, the sheeple idiots of HK have only themselves to blame for the rioting to come in the months and years ahead.

All they have done is further embolden and encourage the rioters to do more of the same.

As far as Beijing is concerned, HK has shown itself as a lost cause, and China would be content to let the rioters punish their idiotic supporters with more riots and destruction of public and private property while China redoubles its efforts to replace HK with Shanghai.

HK will now be a cautionary tale of what happens when you drink the western Kool Aid.

The city will decline and stagnate, and all with money and connections would move away, leaving the rioters and their supporters to stew in their own filth.

The rebuilding will begin after 2047 and a thorough house cleaning. But mind you, most the the foreign leaders, judges and media cheerleaders of the rioters would have packed their bags of money and left for greener pastures long before then.

Most people considered the cultural revolution a terrible mistake. It did have many consequences, but one thing it did well was make Chinese people patriotic by making lives unlivable for those who weren't. After the cultural revolution, the culture in China became ingrained as one of nationalism even as the harms done by that period were slowly peeled away. The wisdom of the CCP can often only be seen decades afterwards. Hong Kong desperately needs a crash course cultural revolution where Red Guards line the streets ready to dispatch anyone by martial law and everyone is too scared to whimper so much as an anti-China word for fear of disappearing in the middle of the night, and I mean fearing it because everyone has several friends that it happened to, not because Western media told them it would happen. It would be brutal, but will transform the culture of Hong Kong into one of nationalism. Critics may say one cannot force others to give him their love, but lies repeated ad nauseum become truths (not applicable to science) and in the end, everyone respects power. The other problems that arise as a result can be dealt with later but there is no problem in the world as severe as hatred for one's own country and thus oneself.

Dividing the political parties in Hong Kong into opposing camps of "pro-dem" and "pro-est." is over-simplification at best, and treacherous at the worst.

This has been used by MSM many times in their game of "divide and rule". They have even labeled Hu Jintao to be liberal compared to Jiang Zeming during the first two years in office. It was only their wishful thinking and somehow to present the image that even CPC has western leaning factions. Only after they realized that Hu is no less communist, did the MSM turned around their voice. The other good example is Aung san suu kyi, who was treated as western "democracy" darling before she win the election, then she is blamed as the collaborator of ethnic cleansing. Didn't the US calls the Mob who lynched Mumar Gaddafi the good guys, only get their ambassador killed by the good guys soon afterwards? Isn't it more like "with me you are democratic, disagree with me you are a tyrant"? The western MSM has no real friends, but just try desperately to pretend to have a lot.

What we can see here is that, the MSM try to paint the picture that any winner is in their camp, in Hong Kong that means any winning parties (many of them) is labeled as "pro-dem" which by western terminology equates to anti-Beijing. MSM would not hesitate if any of these winning party agrees with Beijing at some point of time on some specific subjects.

From Beijing's perspective, there is no "pro-dem" which is a fake-denomination, there is only "pro-est." and "anti-est.". The establishment is PRC constitute and Basic Law. Anyone uphold and work within that framework is pro-establishment which includes many parties labeled (stolen) by the western MSM. The "anti-est." camp is the ones who want to force a change to the basic law upon Beijing.

Using the word "pro-dem" also runs the risk of falling into the trap set by the western MSM, as if only the west can define what is "democracy" what is not. We should not grant them that authority, just like we should not grant them the authority to interpret the Basic Law.

Sometimes, after being "brainwashed" by western propaganda, we are accustomed to their terminology and definition of concept, so much so that we unconsciously play by their rules. It is time to turn the whole table and have our own say.
