Perhaps Fixes are on the way like maybe just maybe increased maneuverability so it can turn with the Su35 or later birds increased engine performance to provide a increased thrust to weight ratio so it will have that maneuverability and simplify the thing in other Cancellation of further purchases till these things are fixed once and for all, Geez for a program that started sucking money in the 90s it's time to say Enough is Enough

They are just simply growing pains that every new airplane goes through. The F-35 is after all an incredibly complex piece of machinery. These things meed to be put in perspective.

Take the F-16 as an example. The following account is from someone who had to deal with its growing pains in the early years.

In 1981, I was an Air Force captain stationed at Nellis Air Force Base — home to one of those fighters, the then-brand-new F-16 Fighting Falcon. It was an incredible aircraft, featuring leading-edge technologies such as fly-by-wire flight controls and redundant flight-control computers, unheard of maneuverability, along with unprecedented levels thrust and fuel efficiency.
However, there was one problem: Our early F-16s kept crashing. We lost four aircraft in my first 44 days at Nellis. Wing commanders were lucky to last a month. In fact, there was a macabre joke circulating that if you wanted one of the new jets, just buy an acre of land off the end of the runway and wait, recalled veteran F-16 pilot Pete Gavares of the program’s early years.

There is an old rule in project management: there is no problem that can not be solved by using up more resources. ( $ )

Maybe these days the citizens of the USA prefer things like health care more than to have new fancy fighter jets.

Interesting, you don't know the trends ?

USA spending, as percentage of GDP :
1981, Military : 6.567% , Healthcare : 8.9%
2016: Military : 3.222% , Healthcare :17.073%

So, in 1981 the USA had the financial power to debug/correct the issues with fighter jets ,ships and so on.

But we are not in the 80s any more.
Easy to fix the F-35 issues, move the software/ hardware guys from the GE medical imaging division to the F-35 project.

Lockheed Eyes Giving F-35s More Gas With Drop Tanks And That's A Very Good Thing

when I had begun to read it, I was thinking like 'because the Eagle has fuel tanks', then saw further down in the article

"Lockheed Martin's renewed interest in drop tanks for the F-35 also comes as the U.S. Air Force, which is the largest F-35A customer, has asked for funds to purchase a number of Boeing

. The added range that these aircraft offer over other fighter jets ..." etc., LOL

didn't know

"As for sustainment costs, ... Lockheed ... will meet the Air Force’s goal of spending $4.1 million per tail, per year."

EDIT perhaps the most interesting point is to fund future fighter jets through 'Treasury' (not through Ministry of Defense budget) meaning a separate financing

the authors appears to favor (for Poland)

and I add there's no such thing as offset programs available for those buying F-35s, a country then just can try win a tender for F-35 components or something (good luck with that hahaha)

Something old, something current and something new, the F-35A flying along side a Spitfire and F-16 during the Royal Netherlands Air force open day.
