This has gotten a lot of heat lately. Since the advent of active GPS tracking this became a big deal.
From The Navy to Marines to Air Force even European Air forces have been caught flying them both in and out of boxes.
From antiquity to till today it’s a classic bit of Graffiti. But this is a bit over top.
First to be offended by a method that can only be seen by GPS tracking. Second to have actually mapped and navigated such a sky drawing. I mean that’s Skills Bro.

Poland has deepened its interest in the Lockheed Martin F-35, with the country’s defence minister indicating that it intends to purchase 32 examples of the fifth-generation fighter.

Mariusz Blaszczak says it intends to acquire the A-model variant to replace its Soviet-era RAC MiG-29 and Sukhoi Su-22 aircraft under the Harpia programme.

"Fifth-generation fighters are already on the horizon. Today we sent a [letter of request], an offer inquiry, to our partners from the United States regarding the purchase of 32 F-35A aircraft, along with a logistics and training package.

“It is time to replace post-Soviet equipment with the most modern fighters,” wrote Blaszczak on Twitter.

Blaszczak says the acquisition of “state-of-the-art equipment” is a “priority” for the government.

In mid-May, deputy of defence minister Wojciech Skurkiewicz told the Polish parliament that the first 16-strong squadron of F-35As will be purchased under the scope of the current armed forces modernisation plan covering the 2017-2026 period; a second squadron will be acquired after 2026.

Tokyo to end search for crashed F-35A

Tokyo will end its search for the Lockheed Martin F-35A that crashed into the Pacific Ocean off the northeast coast of Japan on 9 April.

Japan's Kyodo news agency has quoted defence minister Takeshi Iwaya as saying that the search will be called off.

The report also quotes an unammed defence source as saying that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) will soon recommence flights with the aircraft, which was grounded after the disaster.

Some parts of the lost jet have been recovered, including a heavily damaged portion of the flight data recorder, but the pilot and most of the aircraft are unaccounted for. The US Navy was also involved in the search after the crash.

In a 21 May press conference, Iwaya said that investigators were relying on data received via the aircraft's Multifunction Advanced Data Link as well as land-based radar tracks to analyse the crash.

In the days after the crash, a flurry of media reports had speculated that China and Russia could recover parts of the missing jet, providing valuable intelligence about the F-35.

On 19 April, however, Iwaya and acting secretary of defence Patrick Shanahan expressed confidence that pieces of the lost jet would not find their way into the hands of foreign powers.

Tokyo is destined to be the second largest operator of the F-35 with an eventual fleet of 147 examples.

While most of this fleet will be F-35As, Tokyo will also obtain about 42 examples of the short take-off, vertical landing (STOVL) version of the jet. These will operate from the Tokyo's pair of Izumo-class helicopter destroyers, which will be refitted as aircraft carriers.

Middle East demand could boost F-35 sales to 4,600 units: Lockheed

Lockheed Martin believes that worldwide sales of the F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter could reach 4,600 units, a 15% increase from its previous projection.

The company said as recently as 24 May that it projected the F-35 to have a lifetime sales potential of 4,000 aircraft. The current programme of record for the F-35 is around 3,200 examples; though that count includes planned purchases as well as signed orders.

Ultimately, interest in the combat aircraft, including potential orders from Middle Eastern countries, could boost the programme’s total lifetime sales, said Marillyn Hewson, chief executive of Lockheed Martin, at an investors conference on 29 May.

“There is a desire in the Middle East [for the F-35],” she says. “At some point, I think the US government will look at technology release to the Middle East, much like they have F-15s and F-16s today.”

Hewson says that the company sees the F-35 having about the same sales potential of the F-16, which has sold about 4,600 units. She adds that countries operating the F-16 could be considered likely future customers of the F-35.

“Some countries see it as their stepping stone to the F-35,” she says.

Lockheed Martin moved its F-16 production line to Greenville, South Carolina in April 2019 from a facility in Fort Worth, Texas where the company needed more room to produce larger quantities of the F-35. The aircraft manufacturer currently has an order from Bahrain for 16 examples of the F-16. It is also fielding interest from Slovakia, and Bulgaria. Lockheed Martin is also pitching India on a variant of the fighter called the F-21.

The continued sustainment problems plaguing both the

program and broader military readiness are a major focus of the House Armed Services readiness subcommittee mark of the 2020 defense policy bill, which calls for limiting acquisition funding until the F-35’s issues are addressed.

The subcommittee’s mark, released

, would limit the funding for F-35 acquisition to 75 percent of the authorized amount until a report is submitted detailing the steps being made to improve the availability and accountability of F-35 parts. The Pentagon is requesting $11.2 billion for F-35 procurement in 2020, up from the authorized $7.6 billion in 2019.

A systemic lack of spare parts has been the driving force of low F-35 readiness, with the aircraft’s full mission capable rate across all services sitting at just 27 percent, the Government Accountability Office states in a

. Older parts are not compatible with newer jets, and a limited number of suppliers have been tasked with producing parts, according to GAO.

F-35 Joint Program Office Executive Vice Adm. Mat Winter told Air Force Magazine in December that

to low availability of the fleet, and the office is seeking to increase spare parts production.

“While the F-35 brings advanced, fifth-generation aviation capabilities to our military, the program faces sustainment challenges in areas including repair capacity, global spare parts availability and capability, mission capability, and functionality of its Autonomic Logistics Information System,” the subcommittee’s mark states.

The high sustainment costs of the fleet were cited as a driving force for the Pentagon to move toward

to augment the service’s fighter fleet.

In addition to the study on parts, the subcommittee’s version of the bill calls for the Comptroller General of the United States to study the status of the F-35’s sustainment strategy, the Pentagon’s oversight and prime contractor management of sustainment functions, and DOD’s ability to reduce costs of F-35 fleet sustainment. The comptroller also would review other issues it determines “of critical importance to the long-term viability” of the F-35 and present a report by March 1, 2020.

Additionally, the mark calls for the military services to develop a detailed plan for the “planning, programming, budgeting, and execution of funding that supports the sustainment of weapon systems and equipment.”

With the g-limits relaxed, F-35 demos are becoming more and more interesting. 9g tactical pitch:

From RIAT 2018:

There's also a new engine coming up with 5-10% more thrust which would put in the 200kN class.

at which time in your vids is a Frolov chakra performed? LOL

your timescale for "a new engine" is:

Let's give the pilots some time. They're still learning what the plane is capable of.

The instantaneous turn rate looks comparable to the Hornet, except it powers out of turns noticably faster.

Engine upgrade:

All I've seen are estimates in the 2020-2025 range for the upgrade option 1.0. I haven't found anything official.
