Just of fundamental question about the amazing chinese prowess during this last years. Where is China about tool machinery ? Is caught up its late ? Is she at the level of Swiss or Japaneses ?
Thx for any help!

What kind of machinery are you talking about There are many categories of machinery
Metal working line CNC China has large domestic CNC machinery they dominate low and mid level of CNC machinery But still import High end CNC machinery and component like servo motor. Chinese CNC penetration in industry is still low roughly 30% compare to 60 or 70% in Japan, Germany or Korea. That is because of lower labor cost in China

If you talking highly specialized machinery like turbine blade CNC machinery the Swiss and Japanese still lead China import those machinery

Starrag Swiss Turbine blade CNC machine designer What is AVIC logo doing here
Swiss has long tradition with GT and steam turbine think of Brown Boveri now part of ABB Then there is Sulzer

If you are talking about loader, excavator, dump truck and mining machinery, mobile Crane, Concrete machinery, Then China is up there with the best like SUNY in changsa

Here is another companay XCMG based inXuzhou Jiangsu

Robotic i guess for small assembly robotic China is self sufficient though they still imported precision servo and sensor
Big robotic assembly line like car the ABB and Japanese still dominate

Here is Siasun a robotic manufacturer in China

Transport machinery like Car and Tractor trailer Chinese has plethora of model mind boggling There are hundred or so manufacturer and China dominate car part in the world
Ware housing and automatic factory China make big progress and Chinese e commerce giant distribution center are highly automated

Researchers Develop Low-cost Rare Earth Clean Production Technology for Industrial Applications

The development of low-cost rare earth clean production technology is a challenge for rare earth resource utilization. One of the key problems is the development of new rare earth separation system and relevant technology.

Solvent extraction and chemical precipitation are two of the most widely used separation technologies, which have made important contributions to the development of China's rare earth industry, but they still have shortcomings.

In a study published in Hydrometallurgy, a research group led by Prof. SUN Xiaoqi from Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter of the Chinese Academy of Sciences prepared a new type of phenoxycarboxylic acid extractants. The extractants can quantitatively extract low-concentration rare earth, forming solid extracting complexes, which can be stripped and recycled.

Researchers synthesized some alkyl phenoxy carboxylic acid derivatives by the Williamson reaction, taking into account their abilities to form solid complexes with rare earth ions from an aqueous phase, and they were used as the solid extractants.

An extraction-precipitation method based on this type of extractants was developed, which combines the advantages of solvent extraction and chemical precipitation. Without using organic solvent, the new separation technique is characterized by quantitatively extracting metal ions to form the precipitation of extracting complexes. The extractant can be stripped and recycled.

This method is different from classical methods of liquid-liquid extraction, solid-liquid extraction, chemical precipitation, flotation and adsorption in the field of hydrometallurgy. Industrial tests conducted by researchers and the collaborators showed that it has advantages including low cost, good stability, large phase ratio, fast separation, large processing capacity, good sustainability and safety.

The technology has good industrial application prospects in the fields of enrichment of rare earth from leaching liquor of ion-absorption minerals, leaching liquid transformation of Baotou rare earth minerals, softening of ammonia sulfate rare earth wastewater, and rare earth secondary resource recovery.

I mean of course High end CNC machinery. Because as I see with Huawei a day or another, US will forbid Switzerland and Japan to sell this hardware to China. The question is where is China in this area ? The fact that Beidu is more accurate than the GPS, the WS-15 is equal if not powerful than Pratt & Whitney F135 seems to indicate that China caught up its late regarding its tool machinery. Am I wrong ?

Don't know where you got that info.

High end CNC in aerospace China still need to buy from Switzerland Not sure if they use american technology or not. Mechanically and software, sensor I am sure Swiss use their own technology. Now semiconductor that is different thing

so if trade war loom and they can't export those machinery to China, then WS-10 and QC 280 production will be devastated then?

First of all, I don't think China is using imported CNCs for WS-10 or QC280 or anything remotely related to military. Remember the Toshiba selling CNC to USSR? These kind of machines are in strict export control (blocked) to China.

Second of all, I don't think China is behind anyone. Yes China is very new in this area, only caught up to the top players recently, but as of today (in the past few years) China is on the same league of the top in CNC making. See this Documentary
at 24:34.

There is another recent Documentary talking about polishing the surface of turbine blade by CNC using tinny sand blasting nuzzle.

In a simple term, you can say J-20 is decades later than F-22, but as of today China has the fighter in the same class as the US.
