CV-18 Fujian/003 CATOBAR carrier thread

I think it has been mentioned by a few posts earlier, but we'll find out in a few months. Doesn't really negate my argument however.
It will take about 5 years before carriers that started construction this year will be fielding any fighters on them. Even if we go with an accelerated schedule of say 3 years that’s still a very big time gap where more fighters aren’t needed immediately, which is to say that no news right now really doesn’t mean anything. That, and we are not observing developments in the same information environment we were five years ago. We frankly no longer have a good tab on *any* new procurement for any fighter model now.

Post from fzgfzy earlier this afternoon...

"Chances of the modules being for CV is extremely high. There are actually two modules in photograph (likely referring to the JNCX photo) - one is the module core, and the other one forward of the module core but is blocked from view by the larger one."

With each new piece of information, things are heating up more and more...

I'm already saddened by the future difficulty of getting consistent, up to date, high quality photos of 003 at JN compared to 002's construction at DL.

Just like how the pictures of the 055 construction and launch at DL were so much better than what we had for the 055s from JN, I expect JN's carrier works won't be anywhere near as well covered as DL's carrier works.

Well if DL indeed has another Type 003 in the works, we can always glean information from that yard instead and make the appropriate date & progress adjustments to better reflect what's going on at JN. It shouldn't be long if the rumor is indeed true.

...so I suppose we can call late July, 2018 as the equivalent of late April 2017 for 002.

Pardon, but that must be a typo?? o_O:confused:

In April 2017 was the Type 002's official launch already ... maybe you meant April 2015??

But overall I agree with you it seems as if indeed the show is now on.

I can agree with your comments on the Type 003, but the fact that the Type 002 is about to enter service (end of 2018 or early 2019) and we haven't seen any new J-15s yet is quite eye-opening. You'd think that they would have physical examples for the pilots to train on by now.

The module appearing at JNCX shipyard several days ago basically can be confirmed to be the submodule of 003 CV's engine compartment.

And that goes to my second point. Maybe they are and we’re simply not seeing any publicity for it.
