Why do you think it will have such a small air force? The Kitty Hawk class was about the same size and it had around 90 aircraft.

36 fixed-wing fighters + 12 rotary-wing aircraft is about right. The Kitty Hawks could theoretically carry up to 90 aircraft, but that's from the 60's. In her 2000s configuration, the USS Kitty Hawk only had a capacity of 70 aircraft. Even then, you don't want to carry more than 70-80% of your capacity because you need space for maintenance and other operations on board. That considered, 50-ish aircraft total is perfectly reasonable.

Also consider that the J-15 is a big fighter, measuring in at 22 metres long (vs the F/A-18 E/F which is just over 18 metres long), which means that it takes up more space. For reference, the Kitty Hawk's standard air wing in the 2000s was only 40 fixed-wing fighters. If the 003 can carry 32-36 J-15s, 3-5 AEW aircraft, and 10-12 helicopters, I would be quite satisfied.

FZGFZY is corroborating rumors that both JN and DL are constructing this class of aircraft carrier:
南北双线我们都说了多少年了,唯一的异议只在于中间时间差是多少,在双蒸那会是有较大时间差的,结果一个Pk时间就可能赶上了。所以前段时间我说004是不是核时,我的表述是:4号和3号是否同级

My translation is poor, but here are a few summary points:
1. He has been talking about a dual JN-DL assembly line for many years now
2. There is a time gap between JN and DL, but this may be mitigated by the fact that the carrier underwent steam/EMALS competition
3. The question now is whether the 3rd carrier and 4th carrier are "on the same level" (i.e. in the same class)
4. It is unlikely that the 4th carrier is nuclear-powered

Makes sense

I have always thought that 003 and 004 will be same class

2 x STOBAR
2 x CATOBAR EMALS conventional
2 x CVN

Simultaneously building 2 in different yards? Then now China is playing different game and it will be absolutely awesome to watch and follow

Theoretically, though less likely due to distance involved, they might be making modules for the same ship. To then be assembled in one of the two shipyards.

It's an interesting idea, though, that if they are making a carrier each, that the two are not of same class.

Those days are gone

Standard compliment on USN carriers is 48
What days are gone??? The standard complement of fixed-wing fighters on USN carriers is 48, as in 24x F-18C/D + 24x F-18E/F (with F-18C/D retirements being replaced by more F-18E/F squadrons), and in the future 24x F-35C + 24x F-18E/F. That number does NOT include 4-6 AEW&C and 4-6 EW aircraft, and does not include any helicopters. The Kitty Hawk could do at least this much. If the 80,000t 003 hopes to match USN carrier air wing strength, it will do nothing less.
