so it seems Tianhe 2A which will use purely Chinese chips not ready yet ?

Interesting that Japanese Gyoukou seems very efficient .. only 1.35 MW and reach 19.1 PFLOPS
American Titan is not that good in term of power efficiency

Yes, my only disappointment here is that Tianhe-2A at 95pf was not ready, but honestly, it's a little much to ask for since they only announced the upgrade plans 2 months ago. But then again, beating America 202-144 in the count was, in my opinion, solidly too much to ask for. Anyway, hope it's ready by June next year.

Go Tianhe-3!!

Yes, 2A substituted Intel Phi Coprocessor which was the original plan, but kept Xeon CPU. I think this is the end of 2 series. Anything next (Tianhe-3?) from NUDT will have to be full Chinese chip. I don't think US will allow Intel to sell better chip, nor does China dare to buy.

Indeed, Japan is impressive in being green. 4 of the top 5 are from Japan, all of them using ZettaScaler architecture. I am interested in what is special with it.

I think it is already the end of Phi Coprocessor to China, even let's say Trump would allow it .. China would't buy it anymore .. it is too late now ... China is already too advanced

Trying to turn America into Russia? No wonder he is tight with Putin.
I am not trying anything like that, nor is China doing or trying to do anything, after all it is America refusing to do business that China is interested. Russia was doing the same in the past. I think on this level, key tech, everything is on the table, everyone knows what anyone else is doing. It is not poker game, but chess.

... A figure I don't fully understand, PUE. The lower it is the more efficient the cooling system is. The Chinese one is almost equal to 1, while Japanese system is much higher. The reason is that Chinese system choose to vaporize the liquid, Japan does not. We all know vaporization is much more efficient.

For those interested, PUE is Power Usage Effectiveness:

To put it simply, anything above 1 represents power wasted (i.e., not used by computing elements).

PUE is a critical metric for data center operation. For some time now, the trend is towards evaporative cooling, in particular passive evaporative cooling.

Tianhe-3 CPU will probably be FT2000 Plus equivalent to Intel Xeon E5.

Tianhe 3 (hopefully completed by June 2018) will have the world's first exascale supercomputer or roughly 11x faster than Sunway TaihuLight or 33x faster than Tianhe 2 ;)

In June 2018 ... the first 3 top supercomputers could be Chinese

Note : Tianhe 3 will be powered by Chinese CPU

That would be highly optimistic. It would require not only that Tianhe-3 be ready ahead of schedule but also, Summit and Sierra both be late. It's actually more likely that Summit and/or Sierra come online by then, handing the crown back to the US momentarily while Tianhe-3 is not, giving US media a field day. I'd be happy if they all went in together; meaning China retains the top spot while Summit and Sierra fail to do what media has been bragging about for the last 3 year: hand the title back to the US very briefly.

Do you have more details on Summit and Sierra?

Wiki must be very old as it still states 2021 as the year when first US exascale computer to come online.

From what I read, 2019 is the year China aims at to have a prototype exascale computer, 2020 is the target of an operational one.

Summit and Sierra aren't exascale; they aim to reach 150-300pf. The target for America to reach exascale is still 2021-2023. Tianhe-3 is also not scheduled to be a full exascale computer when/if it comes out next year but is expected to be be upgraded to exascale near 2020. I don't think either Summit or Sierra are designed for that.
