In America people are free to their opinions. If you offer n opinion that someone is disloyal, make sur eit is just that...an opinion. And then make sure it is done with respect and not as a flame war. People are free to discuss it among themselves

But remember, SD IS NOT a political forum. If politics starts to come into it...it will not be long before we, as moderators ask that to stop. This is a Defense Forum, mainly about weapons systems, force levels, equipment, weapons, ships, aircraft, sensors, weapons, etc., etc. and the capabilities they have and the force structure and plans/dies that control their use.

But the Rules on SD specifically state that we are not going to allow people to come on here and flame bait and run other people's countries down because of their animus for it, because of political ideology, etc, etc.

A person can feel free to question decisions of countries, but on SD you have to keep that type of disagreement above attacking other people or their countries.

Since this is a privately run forum, and since the rues are posted, everyone implicitly agrees to abide by them when they start posting. If they do not, we will let you know...and if rules continued to be disobeyed, then we warn, suspend, and ultimately ban people if it does not stop.

We do not want a free fire, flame bait, argumentative, and free for all forum here. We want it kept professional and when there is disagreement to do so with respect of those who may disagree with you.

Anyhow...hope that helps.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate it.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. My personal interpretation of your above statement is that calling another member of being disloyal is essentially allowed on SDF as long as it is stated respectfully as an opinion. And it is not allowed only in the cases that politics gets involved.

From my personal experience, talk of disloyalty is almost always related to one's politics especially on anonymous internet forums where no one is seriously going to admit being an actual traitor like an enemy spy for a foreign nation. Can any member really make an apolitical and respectful accusation of another member being disloyal to his/her country?

Finaly you understand a bit my point

Many American members here on the forum have expressed their critical opinion on the US government, former or current. This is what makes the US great. We are free to criticize our government. Unlike what you think, criticizing our government actually makes us the patriots.

Can you define your meaning of "the right behavior"? You mean a loyal citizen should always praise your government? We actually have a term for that kind of people and it is called "a sheep", which is by the way not a positive thing to say...

Yes by ex some don't like Obama but it is interior politic (here to avoid better ) NOTHING with i have pointed and they say Nothing vs USA the country, institutions etc... as do Equation... you don't or want understand since a week ! in more at the end of your post it is no sense !

I let's you to this point but you are disapointing...

I think I understand what Forbin is trying to say after much deciphering. I don't think he is simply implying that being critical of one's own government = unpatriotic or traitorous etc. That, as most of usl agree is certainly NOT only NOT unpatriotic but in fact should be encouraged and cultivated properly in a free republic or a democracy!

What he is saying (I think) is that when a person automatically brings up a strawman or pulls in counter arguments against his OWN country while siding with another does 'look' kinda sorta unpatriotic.

For ex. someone says something negative bout China... but instead of discussion that point under it's own merit, a US citizen suddenly brings in the US into the argument for no other reason than to put her down and elevate China because the US did it worse etc ... by drawing similar arguments therefore nullifying the initial argument and 'sides' with China.

Typically one would do the opposite i.e bring in counter arguments to SUPPORT one's own country as oppose to vice versa.

Again this doesn't mean one is necessarily unpatriotic it is just quite unusual.

That's what my take on it is anyway, take it for what it's worth.

So I have this little peach tree in my yard. This summer it produced about a dozen beautiful-looking fruits. We ate a few of them, but were waiting for the rest to ripen more before picking. They were delicious, so much better than store-bought peaches.

Then last night, I found that the peaches were gone. Where there had been 10 of them the day before, I could only find two. This morning, there was only one left, and by the light of day, I saw 8 peach pits on the ground, along with a small pile of feces.

My suspicions is that a racoon stole them. I'm angry and disappointed, and trying to come up with a way to protect the fruits for next year. I don't want to trap or kill them, and since I have young kids playing in the yard, I need child-safe solutions. Does anyone have suggestions?

I suggest to wait until your kids are out of the house and then grab a gun and shoot the raccoon.:D

Well, jokes aside, call pest control. They may have more humane ways to deal with it. For instance, they might have a kid-proof trap.

To be honest, I have no clue what Forbin is trying to say... He said in his last post that I finally got his point. Maybe I'm just slow, but I don't even know which of his points I actually finally got... I thought I haven't changed my view one bit since the beginning...

I do agree that we should focus on discussing the point under its own merit in any type of argument.

You can always try a night guard critter repellent.

I had that happen with a persimmon tree in our backyard. The tree gave us more persimmons than we could eat every year. One year most of the persimmons were suddenly gone and I checked the security cameras and saw over a dozen raccoons came into the yard in the middle of the night. Raccoons are creatures of habit. I would see the same ones all the time around the same time. They keep coming back. I didn't do anything to stop them because it was sort of futile. Nature took care of them for me. Every time a storm rolled on through the raccoon numbers would dwindle. This was in the middle of the city so I knew a lot of them come from the sewers.

I don't know what the laws are where you live but if you can kill them, you should because like I said raccoons are creatures of habit. I see them come and go on the same paths, climb up and down the parts of the fence. They remember where to go and they teach it to other raccoons. If you can kill off the family or gang, you at least will buy time until the next group finds your peaches. Usually I don't see the same groups every year so I assume they die off by nature. So get them early. Back when I was a kid, my friends and I might've perched up on the roof with some BB guns. If you don't want to stay up at night and do that maybe lace some bad fruit with rat poison and put them at the base of the tree... that's if you don't have pets around. An aggressive pet dog might teach them not to go into your yard but then I've encountered some aggressive raccoons also.

Interesting idea with the poisoned fruits! Unfortunately, I think it's against the law here. Besides, I don't want to deal with dead raccoons. :p

I really hope it's not more than one raccoon!

I believe you live in California? Do you know what type of persimmon tree you have? Asian or american? I'm actually planning to plant some persimmon trees next year. However, since I live in Toronto, I think I have to go with the american type, but I've heard that they're not as tasty as the asian kind?
