China usually don't care too much for media war, or media games, to be more precise this time.

They should, cost is minimal. ROI is significant. Remember Sun Tzu.

With the western media not even bothering to hide their bias against China, what would be the point? Anything China says or does will just be ignored or twisted to mean something else.

The only way China can effectively fight this media bias is to have overwhelming proof on their side, like the 2008 Tibetan riots.

This means China needs to pick its media battles carefully, and not lower itself into getting into petty spin wars over every little incident. But keeping mum most of the time, China invites the biased media to become complacent and overstep, that way, when China does fight back, it is so much more effective.

This is a sub-optimal solution, but it is the best that China can realistically achieve in the short of medium run.

China is just waiting for biased medias to run their own credits dry.

Anyone who takes seriously these reports, or worse use them to pass any kind of judgements, where they don't even provide the most basic of info like the locations & circumstances of the incidents will not be convinced of anything other than what they want to believe. The same amount of effort needed to convince these guys can better be used for something more productive like building a fleet of aircraft carriers etc. :)

I agree China needs to state its side of the story, if others turn a blind eye then its on them. For all I know maybe China already have but I haven't seen anything in Western English media.

In case there is an all-out duel (I'll call it a duel since high seas naval and air battles shouldn't cause much collateral damage) the additional 054As and 052C/Ds probably can't be churned out fast enough despite the already breakneck pace.

Would the 056s have a role to play? I was thinking small patrol ships would be the next level of escalation but clearly the situation has leapfrogged right along to major surface ships.

I'm somewhat comfortable with China's silence on this matter, if you watch Japanese/US media channel they have been very active on this matter

I doubt China and Japan will escalate it further, this EW playground has been happening for some time, it's just the Japanese is making a lot of noise this time

Further escalation can risk a tipping point, unwanted but either sides

That's why all I'm hoping for is the Chinese side to start documenting on camera any of the harassment from the Japanese side. That's not a lot of money or effort. For those that have made up their minds, putting out a media reply is not meant for them. It's for the silent masses that haven't quite made up their minds yet. For instance, someone who could see any aggressive harassing or intimidation from the Japanese vessel would certainly view turning on the FCR as warranted. Nothing more powerful in deflating accusations than a Youtube clip that totally contradicts their charges.

Documentation is worthwhile if you are the aggrieved party. It is not yet clear who the aggrieved party actually is here.

Honestly, China doesn't care about justifying their action. Locking radar on the Japanese and causing them to start panicking plays hugely well to the domestic audience, and that's really the only audience that the Chinese government cares about.

What are you talking about

I swear I posted it in Jeff's PLAN report thread. Anyways, carry on with the discussion.
