Some more thoughts on lasers.

A 600kW laser could still be useful at a distance of 20km.
You could have soft kills on the infrared sensors of an incoming missile.

---

In addition, you can have multiple warships firing their lasers at the same target, at low cost. The difference in angles results in side-hits which should be better than head on. We could also see cumulative heat transfer occurring.

That doesn't really apply if you are using SAMs or gun rounds.

---

So in real life, once ships have used up their long-range SAMs and medium range SAMs, they might benefit from bunching up and overlapping their laser coverage.

That mitigates against individual lasers being non-operational and improves the overall effectiveness of laser point defence.

If the Type 055B is a transitional model between the Type 055 and the next gen"national anti-missile warship," then we might see a VLS configuration similar to the Type 052D: mostly HT-1 VLS and a portion of the next-gen large-caliber HT-2 VLS.

This would allow for earlier sea trials and combat training of the HT-2 and next gen missile, and also ensure that the development achievements of the new missiles still can be transferred to older ships, just like the current YJ-20

This is why some people believe that the number of VLS units on the Type 055B may not increase or may even decrease—depending on how aggressively the HT-2 deployment ratio is implemented.

Heh, so apparently Type 05X or next gen cruiser/large destroyer has allegedly a 26m beam which is far wider than any surface combatant PLAN has ever built, in fact it is probably going to be one of the widest modern combatants if true, with the only ship wider being the Kirov class nuclear cruisers.

He also seems surprisingly sure of this new ship so maybe he has heard some insider noise or something? I doubt it'll be from just reading a couple of papers etc. Has anyone has heard or seen someone else talk about this or some other info?

Well that 20k tonne destroyer in that paper had a beam of 25 m so…

Do you have any information on the specifications of the HT-2 LVLS, particularly about the diameter and depth of cells?

Be replaced with BBG(X) Trump-class battleship ?
I heard it will be 35K tonage and first will be delivered in 2036 (if ever) ? and nuclear powered ?
And $17B per ship?

Good luck with that ;)
Yeah, and the best part is they want 15 of those cruisers battleships. If the displacement and size hold, I expect them to install at least double the number of CPS cells on these. Also should keep in mind that they are developing anti ship variants of CPS, so these ships would bring something qualitative superior to their current destroyers, not just more tonnage.

I couldn´t find antything on "HT-2". Though IMO if they are going to add and mix HT-1 with a larger cell, the latter should be big enough to fit DF-26/27 missiles as direct overmatch to the CPS equipped cruisers battleships. A ship that big could be classified as a proper cruiser rather than "large destroyer".

Well it depends wether HT-2 is just an improved HT-1 (in which case, there may be no size difference) or if its meant to carry significantly different weapons.

This is just a placeholder. The related research takes many forms, even including electromagnetic catapults with loading designs; nobody knows which one the PLAN will ultimately choose.
Is there a document describing all of that?
