I think people are still stuck in the 4th gen mind set of air superiority aircraft as something that launches BVR, dodges and enters WVR range, and finish things off in a knife fight. That hasn’t been true for more than 25 years. How J-20S achieves air superiority is very different.
People should apologize for caring so much to begin with.
Ultimately I advise people to use my metric -- if you want to "verify" that a new engine is considered ready and in mass production, wait for it to be in mass production from mass produced airframes for about two years continuously, then you can acknowledge its success.
Otherwise it's just a ceremonial milestone even when the first aircraft with engines enters service.
I think people forget that PLA watching should be a burden rather than something to enjoy.
Who he is aside, other credible folks are also chipping in in agreement so I'm inclined to believe its authenticity.

Wonder if this means the J-20 would also one day be used as a testbed for some "experimental" engine designs.

and don't forget, AECC Shenyang need massive WS-15 production capacity to keep up with J-20A production. hell of a task
This is why I think the focus on max thrust (especially at sea level) is so dumb. There are many more important metrics that impact combat effectiveness.
