According to Meng Orca, the 29-ton dividing line on the J-20 landing gear may represent the difference between the stealth configuration and the external loadout weight, which means that the J-20's empty weight is around 18 tons.

An operating empty weight of 17.5 tonnes (which is what Orca is saying) is pretty different from an empty weight of 18 tonnes, to say the least.

so back then they didn't have a canopy bow, interesting... Not sure what made them add one later
Originally the ejection process is to blast open the whole canopy then eject like F-22 does, then they changed to detonation cord to break apart back of the canopy behind the canopy brace then eject.

Might be a better design decision considering the F-22 pilot has been trapped before requiring a chainsaw to cut through the canopy.

They still retained the F-22 ejection mechanism (two pvc pipe looking things under the canopy) as backup in vanilla J-20. Got rid of them for J-20S/A.
