Arabs don't have domestic alternatives.

Indians have this story of supposedly domestic alternatives. But from what we've seen those are either too expensive since they are often are composed of majority foreign parts and/or they are simply not good enough.

This "lack of confidence" story feels like phony breastbeating to make themselves feel better that their stuff is actually "good" if only they had "confidence." No, they simply don't have the industrial base for this stuff.

Seriously, they have no electronics industry. Why would they have suddenly have competent radars or EW equipment appearing out of nowhere?
We all know the various reasons why the Indians fail to make military hardware. If they actually took the time to build up their technology and industry then they'd manage to be at least where Turkey is. But because they always try to shoot the moon and take all sorts of shortcuts, they end up with a technology base that can barely make small arms ammunition.

If the program was run properly, there would be an evaluation of all the different domestic options, and drop everything except for the most promising ones. They'd develop these promising domestic technologies and line up foreign replacements if they didn't pan out. Do that and India would have a prototype constructed by 2031 or so. But we all know that's not going to happen so we have to do is to get some popcorn and wait for the fireworks! I'm just really amused that they're already talking up a Mark II when they don't even have any real plans for a Mark I. To be fair, that's sort of what Lockheed Martin pulled off so maybe India is learning from the best!

They would have done it with the Meteors if they even had the capability of Macgyvering something that complex.
As far as I know, the Meteor doesn't have an AESA seeker.

The PL-15 has four features that are rarely found on other AAM missiles:
1. Super long range.
2. AESA seeker head.
3. Two-way datalink.
4. Dual pulse rocket motor.

It's probably the second best AAM in the world, and it's there for a reason.

So it seems they selected Israeli options.

India has long been drooling at the feet of the Zionist entity, so this makes sense. Hindu nationalists have cited the genocide in Gaza as a positive example to use against Pakistan. Of course, the usual impotent fantasies, but it speaks to a common mentality. This deal also consolidates the shift away from Russia as an arms supplier that began under Modi's first term.

Incidentally, I wouldn't be surprised if there were "under-the-table" conditions. Indians have been caught spying for Mossad in the gulf area.

India has fairly close relations with Iran and it's not hard to guess why Israel would be interested in further co-operating in that area. I wouldn't be surprised if the Israelis gave discounted offers in exchange for "favors".

As an aside, it's actually crazy that a country of barely 10 million people is supplying tech to a country of 1.5 billion. But here we are.

Not afraid of US, India to purchase S-400, R-37M and…, govt set to give a tough reply to Pakistan, China

New Delhi: India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has had a very important meeting with Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers' meeting held in Qingdao, China. The clarity and frank language in which India's defense needs and technical cooperation with Russia have been talked about in India's official press release are an indication that India is now moving towards entering into a much-needed defense agreement with Russia to rapidly upgrade its air defense and air-to-air missile capabilities.

My impression so far is they're too scared to try stealing any secrets from it. Just trying to extract some cash for parking fees from UK.

Given how even US service women got the typical treatment in Jai Hind land I think this is more a case of competence rather than fear. A Ewok probably has a better chance of reverse engineering an AT-AT walker than they could an F-35.
