Re: Translation of amateur Chinese military article, take a look!

This was posted over in CDF, I kind of got the gist of it through google translate. Can someone read through it and judge whether it's just a fanboy write up or if it has the ring of truth to it?

Fanboy write up. The sentence about nuclear reactor gave it away.

LOL at your comment about cunning laziness. I admit to being a flagrant offender.

Even with my amateur writing, a 400 word Chinese paper feels like it covers as much as a 600 word essay, and those 400 words take up less space than 400 words of English. Chinese is truly remarkable as a language, though admittedly linguistically inconvenient at times (it has pros and cons).

You can also read Chinese a lot faster (given that you are properly versed in it, of course). The characters register in the back of your mind when you scan it and you can get a tremendous amount of information just glancing at a paragraph.

What you said might not represent today technology. Where are you from?
For pinyin input method, today, you can key in Chinese words the way you key in English word, but, of course, not with the crappy MS IME. The new SOUGOU and QQ etc, pinyin input methods guest the words in a phrase as you type and return the corresponding words rather accurately.

For wubi (five stroke) input method. I believe it is a good one (I don't use it) that you can type as fast as 120 wpm. The advantage of this method is that you can key in phrase which makes it one of the fastest Chinese input methods. The disadvantage is that the rules are too complicated and very hard to memorize. I use changjie (the counterpart of wubi created by Taiwan) which is built in for Windows XP and later. It has similar rules as wubi but much more simple and and easier to memorize but the disadvantage is that no matter how many new versions come out, it never develop phrase input function.

Re: Translation of amateur Chinese military article, take a look!

Dude, this is a little OT, but allow me to get it right:

pinyin is NOTHING, a lot of what I refered "cunning lazy" Chinese people, using pinyin (modern pinyin input, including sougo you mentioned and ziguang I am using), that's only on top of they already knows what's going on with Chinese characters, words, phrases... minimal requirement - you know which is the right word to choose, when flip the underlining pages.

I see funny things that, people (namely, Singaporean Chinese ethinic people) trys to learn Chinese in a "fast route" way, by emphasising pinyin and allows pinyin to put in as if a proper way of writing (pinyin only) - that's starting at a wrong end, if not rubbish. Anyone TRULY trying to learn Chinese, despite nationality and ethic, should learn from vocabulary with TRUE Chinese character and phrase, and then you can "cut corner" when comes to digital input by using lazy pinyin input.

It is the character meaningful, not the pronunciation. 神马,浮云... stuff like this, are an advanced evolve of digital age Chinese culture, not someone putting excuse on his wrong typing - the difference, is the understanding of underlining (extended) meaning of the phrase, not only the correctness of the character - lazy, but meaningful. One should get it correct (meaningful) first, to be lazy.

Anyway, I mayself is one of the people that, benifit from pinyin input, yet criticise the (over-use of) pinyin input that flood modern Chinese people's mind, making people thinking exactly the opposite way the Chinese-character-oriented should be. So take my words with your own judgement.

Among Japanese people I've met, those who know the Chinese characters (kanji) are the most educated, and subtle-minded.

... and now I see you're using American teenage slang ("dude"):p!

I do what Chinese do: follow the wind 跟风.

And yes, you have using a very subtle way to put - only the most subtle / enlighten minded people can learn "square character" 方块字 well. (or, "these stuff are not for the lesser mind") If there would not resulting disputes here, I agree with you.

But we need to back to topic, or at least praise the letter-based-languages were doing well, on spreading itself in geometric series. People using English as common language for a good reason.
