I must admit, the fact that CV-17 has been called 001A does cause confusion in the long run, as it means the carrier designation will always be one step out numerically with the actual number of carriers built.
I understand to some extent why CV-17 was called 001A, as its a slight variation of the CV-16, but it appears that whoever initiated the designation 001A, didn't see the confusion they would be creating later down the line when other carriers are built. The trouble is, that to some extent its difficult to correct now, as if 001A were to be referred to 002, then people looking back at the historical data, and comments on the Chinese carrier subject would be confused. Anyway, if the Chinese carrier designation is changed, then it needs to be implemented by everyone.

Regarding CV-16, anyone who says this carrier is just a training carrier is being silly. Of course it is a training carrier, but it is also a fully armed combat warship. If there was an incident of sorts, you could be sure the Chinese would use their carrier, and wouldn't just sit back and say, oh we can't use CV-16 as its only a training carrier. :)

Well, if it’s 002号,then the English translation would be CV-002 which is clearly wrong, as it’s likely to be named CV-17 follows the logic of the first carrier CV-16 On the other hand, if it’s 002型, then the correct translation should be Type-002 which is exactly I’ve been saying here... Plus, It was officially designated 002型 (Type-002) last year. I don’t understand why there’s still confusion over this issue.
the "002" hype results from this pic, which was postet in August 2017 002 Type.jpg
But the pic is clearly a fake, if you look at the original

- so I prefer to stay with Type 001 A because of the minor changes to Type 001 Liaoning.

You got them mixed up. The "002" picture is the original, the other one is PSed to hide the "002" designation. You can tell by how different the characters are at the beginning; much thinner than the rest.

Then how come it is on Dalian Shipbuilding's own website? Are you suggesting that DSIC would post a PS'd image on their own website to hide the 002?

EDIT: After further research, it would appear that is indeed the case. The shipyard has replaced the original image on their website with a PS'd one at some point.

Jesus Christ, this is China we're talking about. PSing a picture to prevent release of classified info is EXACTLY the sort of stuff they'd do.

The words ("重点型号") that were photoshopped on are "key type" or "key model". It is the typical wording used to refer to classified projects.
